Chancellor Scholz will ask the Bundestag to vote on the current government . The vote is scheduled for December 16, with new elections to be held on February 23, 2025.

During that time, he called on parties in the German parliament to work to “pass very important laws that cannot be delayed.”

Some of these bills are likely to achieve a unanimous majority in the Bundestag, such as those related to income tax, child benefits and changes to the Basic Law (German Constitution).

On the Ukraine issue, Chancellor Scholz affirmed that Germany has an obligation to prevent the Russia-Ukraine conflict from escalating. Therefore, Berlin should rule out the possibility of transferring Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine.

Regarding transatlantic cooperation, in a phone call on November 11 with US President-elect Donald Trump, Mr. Scholz affirmed his desire to actively cooperate with Washington and assessed the good transatlantic relationship as the "foundation of success" of Germany for many decades.
