The VCSF 2025 event is where pioneering businesses share good practices in sustainable production and business.

A key highlight of VCSF 2025 is the call for businesses to change their approach, no longer considering sustainable development as a compliance cost, but integrating it into their operating model. The question is: Specifically, how will businesses do that?

The story of BAT Vietnam is a clear example answering this question when investments in corporate emission reduction help save fuel and produce more efficiently, or support farmers in sustainable farming to help improve output and quality in raw material areas...

When sustainable development becomes the engine of growth

Speaking at VCSF 2025, Ms. Do Hoang Anh, Director of External Relations of BAT Vietnam, emphasized: “At BAT Vietnam, sustainable development is not only a commitment, but has become the driving force and core strategy in all our activities”.

BAT Vietnam is currently synchronously integrating five strategic priorities into its production and business activities, including climate, nature, circularity, community and governance, in which each priority is associated with specific performance measures.

In terms of climate, BAT Vietnam cuts about 1,700 tons of CO2 per year by promoting energy efficiency and applying renewable energy sources at factories and offices; cuts an additional 66 tons of CO2 per year by using electric drying ovens in raw material areas.

In the natural pillar, the company strives to effectively manage water resources by reducing tap water, increasing the use of recycled water in production, and coordinating with environmental protection organizations such as Bien Hoa Xanh and Saigon Xanh to clean up nearly 30 canals in Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City in 2024. From 2022-2024, BAT Vietnam has protected 120 hectares of mangrove forests in Ca Mau and greened 4 hectares of forests in Dong Nai, contributing to biodiversity conservation and climate change response.

Circularity is promoted by BAT Vietnam through water recycling, waste separation and recycling, maintaining zero landfill waste at two factories.

In its community efforts, BAT Vietnam focuses on building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive working environment for its team, typically 47% of management positions in the business are women. The business also accompanies farmers in its supply chain, helping them improve their livelihoods through supporting seedlings, fertilizers, drip irrigation systems that save about 1,200m³ of water/ha and electric dryers that save fuel. Expanding to society, BAT Vietnam implements the "Women's Empowerment" program - supporting interest-free loans for more than 700 women in border areas, supporting women to develop the economy and improve their status in the family.

The governance pillar is promoted by BAT Vietnam through commitments to ethics and business integrity within the enterprise as well as in all cooperation with partners throughout the value chain.

Accompanying the Government 's development orientation

The business community has been making efforts to implement many technological initiatives to accompany the Government's orientation for science, technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.

Specifically, BAT Vietnam deployed the Integrated Work System (IWS), helping to build an integrated process system between departments, standardize and unify work to guide the entire organization towards achieving business goals with optimal resources and costs; or develop the Be Safe application to help employees report safety risks, and the Bizom platform to optimize the supply chain, analyze data in real time. In addition, the enterprise also trains farmers in raw material areas to use drip irrigation systems, electric drying ovens, and use drones to spray pesticides.

BAT Vietnam also contributes to the country's international integration process through training programs and expanding international career opportunities for Vietnamese employees. At the same time, BAT Vietnam affirms its proactive compliance with international sustainable development standards and improving internal compliance.

From the sharing at VCSF 2025, it can be seen that sustainable development in Vietnam is no longer limited to a manifesto. When sustainability is integrated into the business operation system, environmental and social values will go hand in hand with business performance. This is also a practical path for Vietnamese enterprises to accompany the country on the journey towards the 2045 development milestone.
