Positioning Canada as a destination for Singaporean investors

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will visit Singapore from September 7-8.

According to an announcement from the Office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Singapore is “an important partner in Canada's Indo- Pacific strategy.”

The Canadian prime minister's visit to the Lion City will aim to "strengthen bilateral relations, particularly by promoting Canadian exports and positioning Canada as a destination of choice for investment opportunities."

In addition to talks with his counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will have meetings with “a number of key private sector leaders”.

In 2022, Singapore was Canada's largest direct investment destination in Southeast Asia and Canada's second-largest source of foreign direct investment from this dynamic region. Bilateral trade in goods increased by 28% compared to 2021.

This is Mr. Trudeau's second visit to Singapore as Prime Minister.

Prior to his visit to Singapore, Prime Minister Trudeau will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia, to attend events within the framework of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related meetings. He will then attend the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India from September 9-10.
