“Go with the Clouds” - go with love

Not starting with a check-in journey or a fancy morning coffee, the trip of the group of young people “going with May” started with… a pot of steaming pho in the middle of the Bac Ha highlands. In a rustic kitchen in Pa Chu Ty village, Lung Phinh commune, the young people cooked each bowl of hot pho to give to the children - children who were not yet familiar with the taste of a full breakfast.

Recently, the tourism and volunteer project group “Going with the Clouds” coordinated with the Commune Police and Lung Phinh Kindergarten to organize a program of giving gifts, cooking pho, playing games and showing cartoons to more than 70 local children. The gifts including school bags, comics, and toys were handed to each child, carrying both care and love. Not only receiving gifts, the children also played games, watched movies, and laughed loudly in a morning filled with joy.

The special thing about the trip is the joint efforts of the members themselves. Each person voluntarily contributed 300,000 VND, not for personal expenses, but to buy gifts, cook pho, paint walls, repair the playground, and make a small flower garden for the kindergarten. The small amounts of money gathered together created great joy with a day full of laughter for the children in the highlands.

“We are all people who love to travel. But after many trips, we realized that joy does not really come from taking photos or relaxing, but from simple things like cooking a meal for strangers, giving small gifts to children in the highlands, pouring the school yard foundation, repainting old walls... So we came up with the idea of combining travel with volunteering. We don't want to do anything big, we just want every place we go to leave a little warmth behind" - Nguyen Quynh Nhu, founder of the travel and volunteering project "Going with May" shared.

To reach the locations, the group often had to travel through many steep mountain passes, sometimes muddy and slippery after rain. Furniture, materials, toys, etc. were divided equally into each person's backpack. Upon arrival, the group cooked, cleaned, and organized games together, regardless of the fatigue. Ms. Nguyen Quynh Mai, a lecturer at a college in Hanoi who participated in 3 trips with the group, confided: "Every time I go, I feel calmer. I can't do anything big, but being able to contribute a little bit to a faraway place is enough for a trip."

An indispensable part of the journey is the support from the local government. Captain Ban Hieu Ngan, Deputy Chief of Lung Phinh Commune Police, said: “We welcome such volunteer tourism groups. The commune government is ready to coordinate and support in terms of location, connection with schools and people, so that the activities take place effectively and safely.”

Teacher Nguyen Thi Lien, Principal of Lung Phinh Kindergarten, emotionally said: “The children here do not have many opportunities to interact with the outside world. One morning, someone came to cook pho, give gifts, and play with the children, which was a great joy for both the students and teachers. Although it was summer vacation, with such a special event, the children really enjoyed it and were excited to go to school to wait for the gifts from the teachers and uncles.”

After stopping at Lung Phinh commune, the “Walking with Clouds” group continued on their way to other villages in Bac Ha, Sa Pa and the Northwestern provinces. They brought gifts, pots of pho and simple things: sharing, love and the belief that every trip can be a beautiful journey, if one is willing to bring an open heart.
