Candelaria Rivas, a first-time runner, completed the 63km Canyons Ultramarathon in 7 hours, 34 minutes and 56 seconds, earning her the 7,000 pesos (about $124) prize.
Speaking to the press at the finish line, Candelaria Rivas said: "I knew about this race, but I have never participated. My family encouraged me to participate this year. I am really happy. I dedicate this victory to my family."
Candelaria Rivas belongs to the Raramuri or Tarahumara ethnic group. This isolated tribe lives in the canyons of Mexico.
Living in harsh environments has given them the ability to run over 100km as if nothing had happened.
To get to the race, this 30-year-old female athlete and her husband walked 14 hours from their hometown to the competition venue.
The Canyons Ultramarathon is nicknamed the "Queen of the Canyons" because it runs through highland areas with steep slopes, sheltered by the Sinforosa Canyon in the Sierra Tarahumara.
This year's event attracted more than 300 participants.
