Proposal to build a National Theater after Hanoi Opera House

On the afternoon of May 26, speaking to the press on the sidelines of the National Assembly, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said that, implementing the Government's resolution, this agency has worked with relevant units to study the plan to build the Vietnam Ethnic Theatre.

According to him, there is currently no specific idea about the Vietnam Ethnic Theatre. However, for now, the Ministry is focusing on finding a location to build this theatre.

According to the Minister, the location chosen to build the Vietnam National Theatre must meet criteria such as having a mark value and connection to create a cultural complex.

Based on these criteria, the Ministry is studying the plan to build the Vietnam Ethnic Theatre behind the Opera House.

“If the theater is built in the proposed location, it will create a unique mark and attract tourists,” said Mr. Hung. In addition, visitors to Hanoi will have a place to enjoy and interact. This can help develop Hanoi’s economy ,” added Minister Nguyen Van Hung.

However, according to the Minister, the selection of land behind the Opera House to build the Ethnic Culture House encountered difficulties in site clearance.

Previously, in February 2023, the Government assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to research and report on the policy of building a modern and worthy Vietnam Ethnic Theatre, becoming a tourist destination, promoting the image of Vietnamese ethnic groups.
