According to Ms. Thao, the test consists of 2 parts (Part 1: Reading Comprehension - 4 points; Part 2: Writing - 6 points) according to the sample test format announced by the Department of Education and Training, so students will not be surprised. The selected text in the test is the poem Happiness by poet Giang Nam. This is a good poem, easily evoking emotions for readers. The Reading Comprehension section clearly guides the levels of thinking from recognition to understanding. From question 1 to question 3 are questions about genre characteristics, reading comprehension and perception.

These questions are of a classification nature. If students have a firm grasp of the skills and have good perception, they will answer very well. The questions are also suggestive, relevant to life, and suitable for the thinking and psychology of 15-year-old students in question 5. Therebyeducating students to be moved, compassionate, grateful, and respectful. This is very necessary for young people. In addition, the questions are not limited to certain content, but students can freely answer and express their personal opinions, as long as they are sincere and spread their emotions.

The 6-point Writing section is about familiar skills. Analyzing a poem is a skill that students have practiced very well. The social discussion issues raised in the exam are also very familiar, students write freely and are not constrained by stereotypes or slogans.

Teacher Duong Thuy Linh, Deputy Head of the Literature Group of Lomonosov Secondary and High School, commented that the Literature subject in the entrance exam for grade 10 humanities has high educational value, evoking strong emotions in students about family affection and patriotism.

“This is a test that satisfies the expectations of teachers and students in Hanoi. The text “Happiness” attracts readers from the title, the content of the poem combines the ordinary yet profound confidences of a father to his son, while awakening national pride after the liberation of the South. This is a suitable choice in the context of the whole country celebrating the 50th anniversary of reunification, students are easily inspired to do the test,” Ms. Linh commented.

According to Ms. Linh, the consistency in the reading comprehension questions made the test coherent and attractive, both stimulating thinking and helping students express sincere emotions, in line with the innovative spirit of Literature in the 2018 General Education Program. The questions are highly differentiated.

Regarding the structure and requirements in each part, the questions are close to the illustrated content that the Department has announced. The reading comprehension questions, the requirements to recognize poetic forms, record words and images expressing the content in the lesson and analyze the effects of rhetorical devices have been practiced by teachers a lot in class.

Question 3 in the Reading Comprehension section differentiates well, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their social understanding combined with their literary experience. This question is the premise for the Literary Essay section later on. Students must both understand the content of the father's confession and feel the emotions the author wants to convey through those lines of poetry.

The Social Argumentative Essay question deals with content that is very close and practical to students, certainly not difficult for them. The differentiation lies in the level of comprehensiveness and feasibility of the solutions they propose.

With this exam, Ms. Linh predicts that the average score for Literature this year will be around 6.5-7.5 for students with average to good ability, who can think clearly, reason clearly, and have good writing skills. A score above 7.5 will be difficult to achieve if students do not think well and have not carefully practiced reading comprehension of the genre.

Ha Thanh (Hanoi Star Secondary School) happily said with her mother after finishing the exam: "Although the Literature exam was not up to par, I still did very well. The exam was about family, so I was filled with emotions and wrote very fluently. I felt very satisfied and confident about the exam."

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thien Huong, Head of the Literature Group, Dong Da Secondary School, also assessed that this year's exam closely followed the sample exam, in line with the spirit of innovation in testing and assessing Literature in the 2018 Program. "Surely students will 'breathe a sigh of relief' because the exam is close and easy to access," Ms. Huong said.

Specifically, Part I (Reading Comprehension) with the text of a free poem, although not in the textbook, the content is close and touching about the father's love for his child, about simple happiness. The questions are suitable, not difficult for students.

The types of questions revolve around the characteristics of the poetry genre: from understanding the poetry form, discovering details, explaining the understanding of poetic images associated with the context of the work's creation or analyzing the effect of repeating words to briefly relating to oneself, students have certainly been thoroughly reviewed and will answer well. In particular, question 5 of the Reading Comprehension section is an open-ended question, quite interesting, requiring candidates to share a simple happiness and explain why they cherish it.

Part II (Writing), question 1 requires candidates to write a social argumentative paragraph of about 200 words analyzing the last 5 lines of the quoted text. “With the limited citation, students need to exploit artistic signals to draw out the simple, sacred happiness of the father and the message of caring, loving, and accompanying the child,” said Ms. Huong.

Regarding question 2, which requires writing a social argumentative essay of about 400 words to answer the question: "How to always find joy in school life?", according to Ms. Huong, students need to master the skills of writing this type of essay, combine their own experiences, and determine that the focus of the argumentative essay lies in the solution section to develop the argument.

“The essay topic is not unfamiliar to students. However, writing good and creative articles may not be easy. Overall, this year’s exam questions are safe and within students’ ability,” Ms. Huong assessed.

Teacher Do Thi Linh, Head of the Social Group, Be Van Dan Secondary School (Dong Da) also assessed that the structure of this year's exam was reasonable, clear, closely following the program and sample questions previously announced by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

Regarding the Reading Comprehension section, according to her, the special and major change this year is the use of texts outside of textbooks, helping to assess students' reading comprehension ability, avoiding rote learning. At the same time, the use of such materials will ensure fairness and objectivity for students studying current textbooks.

Writing section (6 points), social argumentative essay with a familiar, practical topic suitable for middle school students helps students express personal opinions and argumentation skills, guide them to humanistic values and appreciate pure, healthy student feelings.

"This year's exam both develops students' basic abilities and has depth of differentiation, suitable for the nature of an entrance exam," Ms. Linh assessed.

Regarding the candidates, in general, they said that the test had a question about “Happiness” so the difficulty level depended on each person’s perception. This was a highly differentiated question. The last question in the test about student joy was not too difficult. The average score that candidates expected for their test was between 7-8.5 points.

Candidate Nguyen Dinh Nhan (Yen Hoa Secondary School) shared that although Literature was the subject he was most worried about, after taking the test, he was confident that he would get 8.5 points. "Happiness is my current feeling," the male student said.
