On February 22, Alves was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for rape and ordered to pay $163,000 in compensation to the victim. The court had initially denied Alves' request for bail, citing "risk of flight." He later appealed and requested bail again. "I believe in justice and will not flee. I am ready to serve the court until the last minute," Alves said at the hearing.
After the Court of First Instance announced the verdict, Barca removed Alves from the list of legends. However, a few days later they restored the image of this former player.
Alves is considered the best right-back of the past 15 years. The 40-year-old former player won three Champions Leagues, six La Liga with Barca, two UEFA Cups with Sevilla, Serie A with Juventus, two Ligue 1s with PSG, Olympic gold medal and Copa America with Brazil. Alves won a total of 43 collective titles, just one title short of the record of former teammate Lionel Messi.
