New look of Vietnam women's volleyball team: Difficult problem without Bich Tuyen

With the number 1 scorer Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen withdrawing at the last minute, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team will present a new look at the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship.

The coaches all agree that opposite Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen is half of the strength of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. The remaining opposite setter of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, has had few opportunities to play regularly in recent times. She also does not have the strength, jumping ability and effective attack like Bich Tuyen. That is also the reason why the coaching board of the Vietnamese team tested the main striker Vi Thi Nhu Quynh or Nguyen Thi Uyen playing the opposite setter position in the friendly match with Kenya before going to Thailand. However, both of them only played an average role and still made experts nervous because of the huge gap left by Bich Tuyen.

Women's volleyball team finds strength in middle blocker

When the opposite position no longer has the most powerful attacker, the Vietnamese team is expected to promote the scoring ability in the middle blocker position. In recent international tournaments such as AVC Nations Cup, VTV Cup, SEA V.League, middle blocker Tran Thi Bich Thuy has been extremely effective in her fast hits. The hitter, who was trained in the Korean volleyball championship, has scored many points thanks to her ability to attack unexpectedly and effectively, leaving her opponents unable to react. In addition, Bich Thuy has also promoted her defensive ability in blocking situations. This 1.83 m tall middle blocker is considered to be in good form, promising to shine at the world championship.

Besides Bich Thuy, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also expects the courage and experience of captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy. Not yet regaining her peak form after the injury she suffered last year, Thanh Thuy has not yet demonstrated her ability from strong serves to high-altitude smashes. However, this hitter also supports quite well in defense, from taking the first step to blocking. Her role is even more important when the team is without Bich Tuyen. Another face who is also expected to maintain her form is libero Nguyen Khanh Dang. With her agility and sharpness, Khanh Dang has repeatedly made spectacular saves for the Vietnamese team, thereby helping the whole team to boost their morale and launch attacks more easily.

The attacking players of Nguyen Thi Trinh, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Pham Thi Hien, Nguyen Thi Phuong, and Le Thanh Thuy are also the backup plans of the Vietnamese team whenever they are stuck.

Yesterday, August 20, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team arrived in Phuket (Thailand), where Group G of the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship will take place. The Vietnamese team (ranked 22nd in the world) will play its opening match against Poland (ranked 3rd in the world) on August 23, then face Germany (ranked 11th) and Kenya (ranked 23). The teams ranked first and second in each group will advance to the knockout round.
