“At first, when I plugged it in, it still charged, but after only a few uses, the battery was completely worn out, it took a long time to charge but the phone was not fully charged. The charger was very hot, it was scary to hold in my hand, the actual capacity was probably only 1/10 of the advertised capacity,” Quang Minh ( Hanoi ) shared after buying a backup charger for 63,000 VND online.
In the context of increasing demand for mobile devices, backup chargers have become familiar items for many people, especially young people who are often on the go. In the current market, besides genuine products from reputable brands, a series of surprisingly cheap chargers have also appeared on e-commerce platforms, attracting the attention of many consumers.

According to a survey by Science and Life reporter/ Knowledge and Life Newspaper , power banks from brands such as Anker, Xiaomi, Energizer, Samsung... have common prices ranging from 400,000 VND to over 1 million VND, depending on capacity and features. However, many online stores are flooded with products advertised with "huge" capacity of 20,000 - 30,000 mAh but priced at only 50,000 - 70,000 VND, making customers confused about the actual quality.
Ms. Lan Huong (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) said that out of curiosity, she ordered a 63,000 VND backup charger. “When I received the product, the charger was very light, with a thin plastic shell. When I tried to charge it, the phone was slow to charge, and after a few days of use, it became blistered and unusually hot, so I didn’t dare use it anymore,” she said.
According to Mr. Tuan Minh, owner of a genuine electronic equipment store in Hanoi, to produce a backup battery with a real capacity of 10,000 mAh or more, the cost of components and protection circuits is not less than 150,000 VND. "Those that cost only a few tens of thousands of VND almost do not meet any electrical and mechanical standards. If used for a long time, the risk of short circuit, fire, or even battery explosion is very high," Mr. Minh warned.
Experts recommend that consumers should consider carefully when choosing to buy a backup charger. Do not choose a product of unknown origin because, in addition to quickly breaking down, the cost of replacing it many times is more expensive than the initial investment in a reputable product with a full warranty.
