The old fishing village of Nhuong Ban, now Thien Cam commune, has long been famous for its fish sauce making. “Whoever comes to Nhuong Ban, come back/Rice with lots of fish, easy to make a living”. The fish sauce production and processing profession has been associated with many generations, creating products that are trusted and chosen by consumers. In particular, since participating in the OCOP program, many establishments have developed stably, contributing to making the traditional profession increasingly sustainable.

Production activities at Thu Hung Seafood Processing Service Cooperative.

Ms. Ho Thi Thu - Director of Thu Hung Seafood Processing Service Cooperative shared: “In response to the increasing demands of the market, the Cooperative has proactively applied science and technology, improved packaging, designs, registered trademarks, barcodes, QR electronic stamps for traceability, and strictly complied with quality standards according to TCVN 5603:2008 and HACCP Codex. Currently, Thu Hung anchovy fish sauce products have been granted 3-star OCOP certification, continuing to open up many opportunities for the Cooperative to reach further in the market.”

The cooperative has proactively applied science and technology, improved packaging, designs, registered trademarks, barcodes, QR electronic stamps...

Not only producing fish sauce, the cooperative also develops many other dried seafood products such as dried squid, dried fish, dried shrimp... processed according to traditional methods, ensuring food hygiene and safety and having clear traceability. In particular, Thu Hung dried squid and shrimp are also recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards.

The products of Thu Hung Seafood Processing Service Cooperative have affirmed their position in the market. The Cooperative is maintaining more than 10 regular workers with stable income; each year it produces over 20,000 liters of fish sauce and tons of dried seafood, bringing in revenue of nearly 2 billion VND.

Recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards since 2020, Ms. Tran Thi Loan's Loan Tue fish sauce and salted eggplant products are increasingly affirming their position in the market.

Recognized as a 3-star OCOP since 2020, the Tue Loan fish sauce and salted eggplant products of Tran Thi Loan household have gone beyond the provincial market and are present in many other localities across the country, contributing to spreading the value of traditional occupations. Currently, the facility has a revenue of more than 550 million VND/year.

Sharing the secret to creating the brand, Ms. Tran Thi Loan - the owner of the establishment said: "Taking ingredients from the old Cam Linh and Cam Trung regions, salted eggplants are a long-standing local specialty, with a different flavor compared to other types of eggplants on the market. Since ancient times, people have been familiar with the very characteristic salty taste of this dish. However, only when boldly investing in expanding the scale, building labels and designs, this type of eggplant has become known, trusted and chosen by more customers."

Ba Chau Cheo products have been present at many fairs in and outside the province and have been sought after in large quantities by customers from Hanoi , Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City...

Similarly, the product of Cheo Ba Chau has also developed significantly after participating in the OCOP Program. From a place of limited consumption, the product has now been present at many fairs in and outside the province and has been ordered in large quantities by customers from Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, etc. Ms. Lai Thi Huyen Chau - the owner of the production facility shared: "Thien Cam commune is developing tourism activities very well, so many visitors come to experience, see the production process and buy gifts; at the same time, contributing to promoting the brand of the facility. Currently, each year, the facility produces nearly 5,000 product boxes. We also determined to continue investing to improve the quality and design of the products in the coming time".

According to the Office of New Rural Areas of Ha Tinh province, up to now, Thien Cam commune has had 16 OCOP products with 3 stars or more with valid certification, becoming one of the leading localities in the province in terms of the number of OCOP products. In particular, Phu Sang fish sauce of Phu Sang Seafood Processing Cooperative is ranked 4-star OCOP, affirming its prestige and outstanding quality, contributing to raising the brand of local products.

16 OCOP products with 3 stars or more include: Phu Sang fish sauce, Thu Hung fish sauce, Thu Hung dried squid, Thu Hung shrimp, Tue Loan fish sauce, Tue Loan salted eggplant, VIETLAP sausage, Huong Cam sticky rice wine, Anh Beo 38 chicken breast sausage, Anh Beo 38 young rice chicken sausage, Cua Nhuong dried squid, Luong Can fish sauce, Ba Chau sauce, Thanh Sang dried squid, Lieu Phuong dried shrimp, Lieu Phuong dried squid.

In the coming time, the commune will take advantage of Cam Nhuong fishing port, coordinate to promote investment attraction, and accelerate the construction progress of Cam Nhuong industrial cluster.

In fact, the demand for expanding production and building OCOP brands of aquatic and seafood processing facilities in Thien Cam commune is increasing. However, due to limited space, many facilities cannot meet the scale requirements, thereby affecting the goal of stable and long-term sustainable development.

Mr. Vo Tai Nhan - Chairman of Thien Cam Commune People's Committee said: "As a locality with strengths in seafood production and processing, Thien Cam commune has focused on developing the marine economy associated with the OCOP program. In the coming time, the locality will continue to replicate effective production models, while focusing on improving the quality and expanding the scale of typical products such as fish sauce, dried squid, dried squid, shrimp, etc. to increase value and competitiveness in the market. Along with that, the commune will take advantage of Cam Nhuong fishing port, coordinate to promote investment attraction, accelerate the construction progress of Cam Nhuong industrial cluster to create a concentrated production area, helping processing facilities to expand, improve production capacity, meet the requirements of quality, food hygiene and safety, towards sustainable and long-term development".
