Ensuring safe operation of reservoirs in the Dong Nai river basin during the rainy and flood season in 2025

The Department of Water Resources Management (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) issued Document No. 1496/TNN-ĐNB dated July 16, 2025 to units managing and operating reservoirs in the Dong Nai River basin on reservoir operations to respond to the rainy and flood season in 2025.

Accordingly, the Department of Water Resources Management requests that reservoir management and operation units closely monitor hydrometeorological developments, implement monitoring, forecasting, information and data provision and reporting regimes as prescribed. Strictly comply with reservoir and inter-reservoir operation procedures approved by competent authorities. Be proactive and ready with plans and resources to respond to unusual situations.

When unusual situations occur, such as rain or floods exceeding the design frequency, it is necessary to propose a reservoir operation plan and immediately report to the competent authority for consideration and decision on safe operation of the project, operation to respond to emergency situations; strengthen the implementation of notification and early warning to the government and people.

The Dong Nai River Basin is one of the largest and most important river basins in the South. This basin has a total area of about 45 thousand km2, stretching across many provinces and cities. The main river systems in the basin include: Dong Nai River, La Nga River, Be River, Saigon River, Vam Co Dong River... The river basin plays an important role in providing clean water for daily life and production, developing hydropower, and protecting biodiversity.
