In April 2024, in Quang Tam commune, Tuy Duc district (Dak Nong), a rabid dog bit the lips and arms of two children. Many other adults were also bitten by this rabid dog and had to go to medical facilities for vaccination.

After being bitten by a dog, the children were treated for their wounds. On April 16, 2024, both children were injected with anti-rabies serum and vaccine. The dog was tested by the district veterinary officer and the result was positive for rabies virus.
The above incident shows that people's awareness of raising dogs is still limited, mostly letting them roam freely but not muzzled when going out. On the other hand, in many cases, people are still negligent in vaccinating their pets.
To overcome this situation, the authorities and localities have implemented many measures to increase the rate of dogs vaccinated against rabies. In many places, people have raised awareness about this.

The family of Ms. Dang Thi Thao, Nam Thanh village, Nam Da commune, Krong No district, has just vaccinated their dogs against rabies. She said that every year, her family registers with the local authorities to prevent this dangerous disease.
According to the leader of Nam Da Commune People's Committee, the locality has carried out propaganda and mobilized households in the commune to properly vaccinate their dogs.
Thanks to the good coordination of the people, the commune veterinary staff and the villages have completed the rabies vaccination for the dogs at a high rate according to regulations.

The leader of the Agricultural Technical Service Center of Krong No district informed that the unit has completed 100% of the plan to vaccinate dogs against rabies with 7,200/7,200 doses. With a high vaccination rate, it has helped local people reduce the risk of disease in dogs.
According to a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in recent years, Dak Nong has had many cases of rabid dog bites, causing serious impacts on people's health and psychology.
Therefore, in its role, the department has investigated, made statistics, and, together with local authorities, actively propagated and mobilized dog owners to cooperate in getting vaccinated against rabies.
The rate of vaccinated dogs in the province is increasingly high, contributing greatly to reducing the risk of rabies. According to statistics, by the end of May, the whole province had vaccinated 7,867/41,000 doses of rabies vaccine for dogs, reaching 92.4%.

The Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee has also issued a document on the implementation of rabies prevention in animals. The province assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with localities to focus on managing and monitoring the rabies epidemic situation for early detection and timely handling.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committees of districts and cities to accurately count the number of dogs and cats raised for rabies vaccination; step up propaganda to raise people's awareness of rabies vaccination for livestock; and strictly handle violations in rabies prevention.
Authorities recommend that people raise awareness of rabies prevention by proactively vaccinating their dogs and cats; not letting dogs and cats roam free; and muzzle dogs and cats when taking them outside. When bitten by a dog or cat, it is necessary to report to authorities for monitoring and to get full rabies vaccination and anti-rabies serum.
