Vietnamese Ambassador to Qatar meets the press on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed his hope that Qatari press agencies will continue to accompany him in conveying information about the country and people of Vietnam.

On August 20, at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Doha, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep chaired a press conference. Attending the event were representatives of many prestigious local media agencies such as Qatar Tribune, The Peninsula, Al Raya, Gulf Times, Aljazeera, Al Sharq, Doha News, and embassy officials in charge of culture, journalism, politics and economics.

In the atmosphere of the whole country of Vietnam towards the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep shared about Vietnam's development path and the prospects of Vietnam-Qatar relations.

The Ambassador emphasized that after 80 years of building and defending the Fatherland, Vietnam has achieved many important achievements: GDP in 2024 reached 476 billion USD, ranked 32nd in the world; in the top 20 economies in trade and FDI attraction; the poverty rate has dropped to below 2%. In terms of foreign affairs, Vietnam currently has diplomatic relations with 194 countries, playing an active role in many international forums.

Presenting the development orientation, the Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam aims to become a modern industrialized country with high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045. The development strategy for the next period is closely linked to digital transformation, green growth, circular economy and a commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed his hope that Qatari press agencies will continue to accompany him in conveying information about the country and people of Vietnam.

Regarding bilateral relations, the Ambassador said that two-way trade turnover in 2024 will reach more than 860 million USD, an increase of 100 million USD compared to 2023. Delegation exchanges have been vibrant, notably the official visit to Qatar by the Prime Minister of Vietnam in October 2024 and Qatari delegations to Vietnam to attend the P4G event and the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security.

The Embassy is working closely with Qatari ministries, sectors and businesses to remove obstacles, expand the market for goods and services, as well as promote cooperation in logistics, skilled labor, tourism and two-way investment.

People-to-people exchanges, culture - education - sports also recorded many advances. Qatar has granted Arabic language scholarships to Vietnamese students and signed memoranda of understanding on cooperation in sports and academic diplomacy. In the coming time, the Embassy will organize the "Soul of Vietnam" painting exhibition at the Katara Cultural Center in September 2025 and screening programs of Vietnamese films in 2026.

Ambassador Nguyen Huy Hiep expressed his hope that Qatari press agencies will continue to accompany him in conveying information about the country and people of Vietnam, thereby contributing to strengthening understanding, trust and cooperation between the people of the two countries.

The Embassy took souvenir photos with journalists.

Journalists attending the event expressed their impression of Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements in recent times, especially indicators on trade, poverty reduction and international integration; and acknowledged the prospects for Vietnam-Qatar cooperation in emerging areas such as renewable energy, high-tech agriculture and cultural exchange.

Many journalists appreciated that the Embassy’s proactive provision of specific data and evidence helped them in their reporting work. Some reporters suggested that they would like to have access to more periodic information about the Embassy’s activities and bilateral relations to enhance propaganda in the local press.

Overall, the meeting was successful, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam and its people, affirming its stance and development path, and at the same time encouraging Qatari media to pay attention and accompany the Embassy's foreign affairs activities in the coming time.
