Ho Chi Minh City National University aims to be in the top 100 Asian universities by 2030

Ho Chi Minh City National University is determined to promote innovation, digital transformation, focus on training talents and aim to be in the top 100 universities in Asia by 2030.

On August 23, the 7th Congress of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City National University, term 2025-2030, officially held its session with 246 delegates attending, representing nearly 3,000 party members from 11 affiliated party organizations.

Attending the Congress were comrade Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, and representatives of leaders of a number of central and local departments.

Comrade Nguyen Van Nen commended and acknowledged the outstanding results that the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City National University has achieved in the past term.

These results have gradually realized the vision of the unit becoming a leading research university system in the region and the world, listed in many prestigious international rankings, contributing to enhancing the educational status of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh City National University needs to reposition itself, set a mission that is on par with its peers, continue to make strong breakthroughs, and have more bright spots in the coming term.

The entire Party Committee needs to continue to deploy and thoroughly grasp the Party's new Resolutions and policies, especially focusing on effectively implementing the Politburo's key Resolutions through specific and strong action programs; continue to promote the "three-house" cooperation model; promote the development of the University Urban Area in the direction of a model, green, modern, and friendly university; play a core role in creating a new development space and new growth drivers for Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country...

The unit needs to continue restructuring the apparatus to be streamlined and strong, improve the efficiency of management and human resource operation in the spirit of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW; pay attention to the life and training environment for students...

Associate Professor, Doctor Vu Hai Quan, Party Committee Secretary (term 2020-2025), Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the Congress has special significance and long-term orientation, demonstrating the determination of the entire system in implementing national strategic tasks and regional development.

The 4.0 industrial revolution, digital economy and knowledge have both opened up opportunities and posed new requirements for education, science and technology.

With Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo (on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation), Decree No. 201/2025/ND-CP of the Government (stipulating the functions, tasks and powers of Ho Chi Minh City National University) and the vision of developing Ho Chi Minh City into a megacity, Ho Chi Minh City National University is well aware of its pivotal role in the innovation ecosystem of the City and the country, being the nucleus in creating new development space and new growth drivers for the city and the country.

Therefore, the unit is determined to break through, integrate deeply, and create breakthroughs in the coming period.

The Resolution of the Congress for the 2025-2030 term emphasizes the goal of building a clean and strong Party organization; promoting the spirit of solidarity and systemic strength, creating breakthroughs in attracting, training and fostering talents; pioneering in research, development, application of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation;

Focus on building a green, friendly, modern university city. The goal is to be in the top 100 universities in Asia by 2030, with a vision to be in the top 100 universities in the world by 2045;

Play a core role in creating new development space and new growth drivers for Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, making important contributions to the process of realizing the goal of making Vietnam a developed, high-income country by 2045.

The Congress agreed to deploy 3 key tasks and 1 strategic breakthrough in the 2025-2030 term. These are to strengthen innovation in the governance model towards streamlining, efficiency, applying digital technology, promoting autonomy associated with accountability; developing talent training programs, interdisciplinary, improving training quality according to international standards; focusing on investing in science and technology potential, promoting interdisciplinary research, mastering strategic technology and transferring results into practice; attracting, training and fostering talents...

The Congress elected the Executive Committee for the 2025-2030 term, consisting of 25 comrades. Comrade Vu Hai Quan was re-elected as Party Secretary, and Comrade Le Thi Anh Tram held the position of Deputy Party Secretary.

In the 2020-2025 term, the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City National University has promoted its comprehensive and synchronous leadership role, achieving many important results in Party building, university governance, training, science and technology, and foreign affairs.

That result marked a strong development step, continuing to affirm the University's leading role in innovation, training high-quality human resources, contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

The entire university system has trained more than 80,000 bachelors, engineers, doctors, masters and PhDs; opened 36 new majors at all levels, focusing on fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Microchip Design, Semiconductor Technology...; leading the country in the number of programs meeting international standards (181 programs are internationally accredited, 53 majors/fields are world-ranked).

The unit continues to affirm its position in scientific research with a total of 13,761 Scopus international publications (as of May 2025), a 3-fold increase compared to the previous term.../.
