On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), reporters of the Government Electronic Newspaper had an interview with Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi, former Deputy Director of Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VTV9), former Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City, currently Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City about the communication work of the Government Portal and the Government Electronic Newspaper in their role as the Government's mouthpiece on the global internet platform.
From the perspective of a journalist and a manager, how do you evaluate the role of the Government Portal in conveying major policies of the Party, policies and laws of the State, as well as the direction and administration of the Government and the Prime Minister to the social community, businesses, entrepreneurs and people?
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi: With the existing platforms and technologies of the Government Portal, such as: Government Electronic Newspaper (baochinhphu.vn), Fanpage "Government Information" on Facebook (with more than 7 million regular followers, peaking at 20-30 million interactions); Zalo version of the Government Portal currently also attracts 15 million interested and following people; along with many other platforms, such as Youtube, Viber, Lotus network... are being evaluated as a source of reliable, authentic, timely, effective information, with influence in the community.
The Government E-newspaper, the "Government Information" Fanpage and the above-mentioned specialized pages and platforms of the Government Portal in Vietnamese, English and Chinese versions have oriented information to promote propaganda for people, businesses and the community to raise awareness of the role and benefits of socio-economic development, thereby contributing to orienting public opinion and creating social consensus.
In the journey of national development, especially in the context of multi-dimensional and fast information as today, the role of revolutionary press becomes more and more important. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, I would like to pay special respect to a special press unit: the Government Portal, the Government E-newspaper - which not only provides fast and accurate news, but is also an official media channel, directly connecting the Government with people, businesses and local authorities across the country.
From the management perspective in a special urban area like Ho Chi Minh City - where it is always necessary to update and quickly receive instructions from the Central Government for timely implementation, I highly appreciate the effective role and working spirit of the Government Portal. This is not only a place to promptly post the Prime Minister's telegrams, directives and management documents, but also a highly oriented information channel for society.
We clearly see the initiative and sensitivity of the journalism team at the Government Portal in quickly reporting on major policies, such as Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 68 on private economic development; or social security programs, such as eliminating temporary housing, supporting the disadvantaged... Each policy of the Party, policy, law of the State, direction from the Prime Minister is reflected not only through pure administrative information, but also concretized into in-depth analytical articles, with specific evidence, helping localities understand correctly, fully and implement quickly, close to reality.
In particular, the Government Portal has organized thematic discussions on many media platforms, such as website, Fanpage, Youtube... immediately after receiving important documents from the Politburo, or instructions from the Prime Minister. These discussions have helped us gain a clearer perspective, and at the same time helped spread policies and guidelines to the people in a close and accessible way.
The "Government Information" fanpage currently has 7 million followers, an impressive number, reflecting the reliability and attractiveness of the information.
In the context of strong digital technology development, the Government Portal has deployed many forms of multi-platform communication, such as: Government Newspaper, Fanpage "Government Information", Youtube, policy seminars... In your opinion, how effective has this approach been in disseminating policies to different groups of readers?
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi: The influence of the talk shows on the Government Portal is huge. Not only the central press agencies, but also local newspapers and radio stations reuse information from here as an official source, creating a strong information ecosystem, contributing to the smooth flow of instructions from the Government to each cadre, civil servant, business and citizen.
I am also impressed with the Government Portal's strong development of digital media. The application of social networks, such as Facebook, Youtube, Zalo... has brought policy content closer to the community. The "Government Information" Fanpage alone currently has 7 million followers, an impressive number, reflecting the reliability and attractiveness of the information provided by the Portal. The posts here are not only fast but also easy to understand, the form of transmission is vivid and friendly to readers, especially young people.
Another highlight that I noted is the diversity in the information structure of the Portal, typically the "HCMC Special Page". Here, the information on the direction and management of the HCMC leaders in the fields of economy, society, culture and arts... is fully and continuously reflected. This contributes to encouraging the positive spirit and consensus of the people in implementing the Party's policies and the State's laws and policies. Thereby, spreading the will to build HCMC into a civilized, modern, and humane city.
The "Policy and Law Development" page is also a highlight. This is where businesses and citizens can access legal policies in a transparent, effective and quick manner. Organizing scientific information, regularly updating drafts, commenting and explaining policies... are important foundations to enhance democracy and the rule of law in law making and enforcement.
Reporters working at the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025)
You have been a leader of a press agency (VTV9), a leader of a press management agency (Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City) for many years and are now the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City. In your opinion, what innovations and breakthrough improvements does the Government Portal need to have to promote more strongly and effectively its role as a bridge between policy and practice, helping experts, the business community, and people access official information; promptly monitor the Government's directives and especially be able to contribute more and more timely feedback to policy development?
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi: In the spirit of seriously implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on the development of science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, I hope that the Government Portal will continue to promote its role as a leading media agency in digital transformation of the press. The portal can expand its in-depth policy analysis sections, digitize media products, such as infographics, short clips, interactive newsletters... so that people, businesses and grassroots officials can easily access, understand and apply.
I also suggest that the Portal increase two-way interaction with readers, especially via social networks, to listen to feedback from the grassroots and from the people. This is a modern communication trend, contributing to improving the effectiveness of national governance and policy management.
In the coming time, I expect the Government Portal to continue to promote its strengths, invest in more in-depth analysis articles, and organize more policy discussion forums. Because this is a practical way to connect the Government's will with the thoughts and expectations of localities and people.
In addition, in the digital age, the trend of developing multi-platform journalism requires the creation of diverse press content on many different platforms to bring messages and information into the life and breath of society. Therefore, the Government Information Technology Agency needs to promote existing strengths such as the "Government Information" Fanpage and deploy many other platforms to diversify access channels for readers.
With the acumen, professionalism, efficiency and dedication of the journalists at the Government Portal, I believe that the Portal will continue to maintain its role as a reliable information bridge, accompanying the development of the country and localities, including Ho Chi Minh City on the path of integration, innovation and sustainable development.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, I would like to send my best wishes to all leaders, reporters, editors, technicians and journalists at the Government Portal. I hope that the Government Portal will continue to be an official information channel with high influence of the Vietnamese press to bring positive values, contributing to building a sustainable Vietnam in the new era.
