Regardless of holidays or Tet, the community group contracted to manage and protect forest in De Kjieng village (Ayun commune, Mang Yang district, Gia Lai province) always does a good job of exchanging information, assigning each group to coordinate with Forest Management Station No. 1 (Kon Ka Kinh National Park) to patrol and control the area of natural forest contracted. Thereby, promptly detecting and preventing acts of encroachment on forest resources and forest land in the forest areas contracted to manage and protect with Kon Ka Kinh National Park.

Mr. A Mum (De Kjieng village) said: Our village community group has been contracted to manage and protect nearly 1,000 hectares of natural forest in Kon Ka Kinh National Park. To protect this forest area from encroachment, we have established community groups in the village, taking turns coordinating with the Park's forces to patrol and control according to the established plan, especially in natural forest areas at risk of being encroached upon.

“We are paid about 140 million VND/quarter from Kon Ka Kinh National Park from forest environmental services to be divided equally among families participating in forest management and used for common village activities. Not only that, villagers also have additional income from secondary forest products under the forest canopy such as: bamboo shoots, honey, wild bamboo shoots, etc.

Since then, people have been more aware of forest management and protection; the forest area and forest land contracted to the De Kjieng village community have not recorded any cases of encroachment.

Similarly, Mr. Kui (in the same village) shared: Every day, we regularly exchange information with the staff of the Forest Protection Station to coordinate patrols and controls. From there, we can promptly detect and prevent acts that risk encroaching on forest resources in Kon Ka Kinh National Park.

We are aware that protecting the forest is to keep the environment green and maintain underground water for rice and crop production, creating a local food source to stabilize life.

Kon Ka Kinh National Park currently manages more than 41,913 hectares of natural forest, mainly special-use forest with more than 41,445 hectares and 468 hectares outside the special-use forest planning. Most of the forest area is spread over 3 districts: Kbang (more than 32,798 hectares), Mang Yang (more than 5,220 hectares) and Dak Doa (more than 3,426 hectares), located in the core and buffer zones of the Kon Ha Nung Plateau World Biosphere Reserve.

Implementing the policy of contracting forest management to people, communities and household groups, the unit has signed contracts for forest management to 29 household groups in 17 village and hamlet communities in the buffer zone with an area of 18,987 hectares. Of which, Kbang district has 13,787 hectares, Mang Yang 3,799 hectares and Dak Doa 1,400 hectares. The total cost of payment to the communities and household groups receiving the contract in 2024 of the Park is more than 8.9 billion VND.

Mr. Dinh Yu (Hyer village, Ayun commune) said: To better protect the 500 hectares of contracted natural forest, our village community group coordinated with Forest Protection Station No. 8 to develop a plan for regular patrolling and control, especially in forest areas at risk of encroachment.

During the patrol, if we discover wild animal traps, we will also remove them to avoid harming wild animals, contributing to biodiversity conservation. The members of the group are very united and work together to propagate to the villagers to raise awareness of forest protection, creating a green environment for future generations to enjoy.

According to Mr. Tran Van Thu - Director of the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms and Head of the Forest Management Station No. 8 (Kon Ka Kinh National Park): Currently, the Station's area has Hyer village (Ayun commune, Mang Yang district) and Kon Jot village (Ha Dong commune, Dak Doa district) contracted to manage natural forests.

During the contracting process, people strictly followed the regulations in the contract; proactively coordinated with specialized forest protection forces to patrol and control the contracted forest areas.

Thanks to that, in the past few years, the natural forest area that the two villages have contracted to manage and protect has not had any violations of the Forestry Law. People have become aware that natural forest management and protection is a shared responsibility of the village community and they all benefit from it.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Ngo Van Thang - Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park - informed: In recent years, from the funding source for paying for forest environmental services, the unit has promoted the assignment of forest management and protection to groups of households and communities in the buffer zones of the Park; thereby, bringing about clear results.

Most of the contracted households regularly send people to patrol and control the assigned areas; promptly detect and prevent acts that damage forest resources such as: deforestation for farming, encroachment on forest land, forest fires, trapping wild animals...

In addition, household groups and communities also coordinate with relevant forces to promote propaganda to raise people's awareness in forest protection, not to encroach on forests for farming, hunt wild animals, etc. Thanks to that, the number of violations of the Forestry Law has gradually decreased over the years.

“Allocating forests to communities and households in the buffer zone is one of the effective solutions in the management and protection of forests in the Park. Household groups are becoming important “eyes and ears” of the local authorities, helping to promptly detect and prevent cases of forest encroachment. In particular, this policy has created livelihoods, helping people living in the buffer zone have a stable source of income, improving their lives. Kon Ka Kinh National Park also regularly supports people in the buffer zones in economic development activities and income improvement.

In the coming time, we will continue to encourage communities and groups of households to participate in forest management contracts to benefit from the State's policies" - Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park said.
