Bac Thi Khiem won a bronze medal in the women's 67kg Taekwondo event.

Sharing with the press after winning the bronze medal, Bac Thi Khiem said: “I was carefully prepared by the coaching staff. The coaches watched videos of the opponent, then studied, analyzed and found suitable tactics.”

In the match against Delo Laila (Philippines), because she had met this opponent before, the Thai girl was quite comfortable.

But the match against Korean athlete Bac Thi Khiem was tense because this was an opponent from the homeland of taekwondo, but in the end she still won 2-0.

"In the match against my Chinese opponent, I tried my best but could not overcome it and only won the bronze medal," said Bac Thi Khiem.

Bac Thi Khiem was born and raised in Muong Gion commune, Quynh Nhai district, Son La province.

At the age of 19, the Thai ethnic girl became the pride of Vietnamese taekwondo with a gold medal at the 30th SEA Games. Notably, this was the first time Khiem attended the SEA Games.

Born into a family of 3 siblings, Khiem had a difficult childhood.

Bac Thi Khiem's path to taekwondo was also very random because she did not love sports since she was young like many other athletes.

“In middle school, my literature teacher knew a teacher at the provincial Sports Center and she introduced me to him.

I was selected and in my first year in the provincial team, I won 6 gold medals when competing in domestic tournaments. In 2015, I was called up to the national team,” Khiem shared.

Notably, previously, Bac Thi Khiem was chosen as the flag bearer for the Vietnamese Sports delegation at the opening ceremony of the 19th ASIAD.

However, because the taekwondo venue was too far from the opening ceremony, Khiem could not attend and the Vietnamese Sports Delegation chose shooter Nguyen Thi Huong to replace her.
