TPO - Regarding the 79-villa complex illegally built in Phu Quoc, on May 22, a leader of the Phu Quoc City Party Committee, Kien Giang province confirmed that so far 49 villas have been forcibly demolished and relocated.

Accordingly, as of May 10, Phu Quoc City authorities have forcibly removed 18 illegally built villas. The violators have remedied the consequences themselves, returning the land they occupied for 25 villas; while remedying the consequences, they have not returned the land they occupied for 6 villas. In total, 49/79 villas have been forcibly removed and relocated.

According to Tien Phong reporter's records on May 21, from the main road leading to the area of 79 villas in Duong Bao hamlet, Duong To commune, Phu Quoc city, there are many long corrugated iron fences.

The land with villas that were forcibly demolished was surrounded by corrugated iron fences, with a sign outside that read "construction: protective corrugated iron fence, land managed by the state.

After the villas are forcibly demolished, the authorities will remove all belongings from the scene, leaving only empty lots.

The internal road inside the villa area is 6-8m wide, and was destroyed by the authorities using motor vehicles due to illegal construction. However, there are still some villas that are currently inhabited.

As Tien Phong reported, in Bai Truong area, Duong To commune, there are 79 illegally built villas located on a land area of 18.9 hectares. This land was previously a protective forest land, managed by the People's Committee of Duong To commune. However, the current status of this place has changed due to many organizations and individuals occupying, leveling and illegally building houses.

On September 19, 2022, the Special Task Force of Kien Giang province coordinated with local authorities to inspect and record the illegal construction of the 79 villas mentioned above. Previously, answering the press regarding the issue of why the handling of these 79 villas was slow, Mr. Huynh Quang Hung - Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee, said that the reason for the slow handling was because the locality did not have enough forces to enforce the case simultaneously. The number of violators was large and they resided in many localities, so the process of preparing documents for handling took a long time.

“We are not happy about the enforcement, because this is the last step. However, to ensure compliance with the law and the supremacy of the law, we have to do it. Partly as a responsibility of the local government, we will overcome weaknesses to do better. Honestly speaking, it is painful to demolish a house worth billions of dong, but we cannot help but do it," said Mr. Hung. Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City hopes that the press will propagate so that people are aware and comply with the law, avoiding violations that require enforcement.
