According to VTC News, Ho Chi Minh City is likely to change its name to Ho Chi Minh City Police. The relevant parties will work together in the coming time on a transfer plan before the 2025/26 professional season begins.
Ho Chi Minh City FC currently plays in the V.League (the highest level of professional football in Vietnam). After the transfer, the team with the new name Ho Chi Minh City Police Club will take over Ho Chi Minh City FC's place in professional tournaments.
The Ho Chi Minh City Police Football Team once appeared in the national championship with famous players such as Le Huynh Duc, Tran Minh Chien... In 2002, the team disbanded, giving up its playing spot and personnel to the newly established Dong A Bank Club.
Ho Chi Minh City FC returned to V.League in 2017. The team had a period of strong investment, recruiting many stars such as Nguyen Cong Phuong, Lee Nguyen... and foreign coaches. Ho Chi Minh City FC finished second in V.League in 2019.
However, due to financial problems and changes at the top, Ho Chi Minh City Club quickly declined. In the 2024-2025 season, this team ranked 10th in the V.League.
