On the afternoon of July 8, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a meeting with the Department of Culture and Sports , Ho Chi Minh City Police, Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation (HFF) and representatives of Ho Chi Minh City Club. The meeting focused on the direction of Ho Chi Minh City Club's activities in the coming time.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , at the meeting, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee agreed in principle to transfer the Ho Chi Minh City Club to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department after representatives of the two units agreed. The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department will receive the team and register it to compete in the new 2025-2026 season.
Specific plans regarding the transfer and direction of the team's operations after the name change will be discussed further by Ho Chi Minh City Police and Ho Chi Minh City Club in the near future.
With limited funds, Ho Chi Minh City FC has been concerned about staying in the league for the past few seasons. Most recently, the team ranked 10th out of 14 teams in the 2024-2025 V-League with 28 points after 26 matches.
Therefore, the transfer of the football team to the police force is expected to be better invested, to bring about commensurate achievements for the new Ho Chi Minh City football after the merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau . Especially continuing the achievements of the former Ho Chi Minh City Police Club.
Thus, the upcoming V-League will have another interesting industry derby match between Hanoi Police Club and Ho Chi Minh City Police Club.
