Associate Professor, Musician, People's Teacher Hoang Cuong

Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoang Cuong was born in 1944 in Hue. He studied at the Maxim Gorku School and the Carl Maria von Weber Conservatory (Dresden, Germany), the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (Moscow, Russia) and the F. Chopin Conservatory (Warsaw, Poland). After many years of formal training, Mr. Hoang Cuong returned to Vietnam to teach music . He was a violin lecturer at the Vietnam Music School (the predecessor of the Vietnam National Academy of Music today) from 1965 to 1978. In 1978, he started teaching at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music. He held the positions of Deputy Head of the String Department, Head of the Symphony Instrument Department, Deputy Director and Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music from 2000 to 2006.

In his composing career, Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoang Cuong is considered one of the instrumental composers with high quantity and quality in Vietnam. His works have been performed in many major academic art programs at home and abroad, including typical works such as: Afternoon glow (written for violin and piano), Tranh tu binh (for string quartet), Ky uc dong song (suite for string orchestra), Ngay dau xuan (10 variations for string trio), Bai ca thang nam (choir and orchestra), Mua xuan the ky (symphony orchestra), Vu hoi dem ram (piano duet)... along with more than 40 songs with piano or orchestra accompaniment, besides songs written for young people, including Thang 1 - Mua xuan, written in the chamber music genre combined with youth music, which was featured in the program Bai hat Viet in 2013.

Associate Professor, People's Teacher Hoang Cuong has been honored to receive many prestigious music awards throughout his composing career, notably 12 Instrumental Music Awards presented by the Vietnam Musicians Association. In 2017, he was honored to receive the State Prize for a group of 5 Instrumental Music works: Memory of the River, Waterfall, Song of May, Drum of the Citadel, Quintett.

In the program Author Night – Associate Professor, People's Artist Hoang Cuong, classical music lovers will enjoy the works: Overture “Spring of the Century”, 3-movement piano concerto Klavierkonzert, symphony Kiep luan rebirth, performed by conductor – Meritorious Artist Tran Vuong Thach, pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, violinists Le Tri Toan, Hoang Linh Chi, Hoang Tuan Cuong… with the Symphony Orchestra of the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
