The European Union (EU) is set to announce anti-subsidy investigations into Chinese steel producers at a summit with the United States this week.

The above information was reported by the Financial Times on October 9. Accordingly, the EU has agreed to join the US efforts to protect industries from unfair competition.

The article said that the US has asked the EU to take measures to deal with Chinese steel producers, in return, the bloc will avoid being re-imposed US tariffs like those imposed by former President Donald Trump on steel products.

China's Ministry of Commerce has yet to comment on this information.

US President Joe Biden will meet with European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel on October 20, just ahead of a deadline to resolve bilateral disagreements over steel tariffs.

Last September, the EU launched an investigation to decide whether punitive tariffs were needed to protect EU manufacturers from cheap imports of electric cars from China that the bloc says benefit from government subsidies.

For its part, China has complained about the “very short” time the EU has given to comment on the bloc’s questions about Chinese subsidies for electric vehicles.
