Mr. Pham Phuong Dong, living in Da Nang, owner of the YouTube channel “Dong Ngu 8 Hours”, has been attached to the VinFast VF 7 Plus for nearly a year now. The car has traveled more than 17,000 km. He calls the car “a close friend”, attached not only to his daily commute but also to the times when he takes a quick nap or works in the car.
Mr. Pham Phuong Dong ( Da Nang ) has been using VF 7 for nearly a year now.
“Finding the harmony between VF 7 and myself”
- Through the clips you post on YouTube, everyone can see that you are very attached to and love the VinFast VF 7. Why is that?
Before buying the car, I joined VF 7 groups. I discovered an interesting thing, most of the VF 7 owners are young people in the design and IT industry like me. In other words, I feel that VF 7 and I are in harmony. Moreover, I also like my first car to be beautiful, unique and full of technology. VinFast VF 7 has all those factors.
When I intended to buy an electric car, many people around me opposed it, but my family supported it because my parents, despite their old age, still like new technology. When I received the car, the whole family praised it.
For me, at first I just thought of the VF 7 as a simple means of safe transportation, but after buying it and using it, I found the car to be like a close friend. Like today, the power went out in my neighborhood, I drove to the charging station, plugged it in, got in the car, turned on the air conditioner, opened my laptop and started working. The car also has a 90W Type C charging port, which can charge laptops.
Mr. Dong chose VF 7 as his first car.
- Upgrading from a motorbike to a car, especially an electric car, how has your travel habits changed?
I used to think that the need for motorbikes is the same as the need for cars, traveling 5-10 km per day is a lot. But after buying an electric car, because the charging cost is so cheap, I travel by car a lot. Every month, I travel an average of 1,500-2,000 km, the charging cost is more than 1 million VND. There are months when I travel a lot, 2,800-3,000 km, the charging cost is about 2.2 million VND. I calculate the average "fuel" cost to be 750 VND/km, which is only a little more than filling up a motorbike.
Currently, I still pay for charging because when I bought the car in August 2024, I chose to deduct the free charging program (1 year) directly from the car purchase price. But at the end of July 2025, I will be exempted from charging according to the new program, lasting 2 years until June 2027. At that time, the charging cost will be 0.
- Having traveled so much, can you share more about the maintenance costs of VF 7 in the past time?
Regarding maintenance, after the trip from Da Nang to Da Lat on April 30, I brought my car to the VinFast service workshop for the first maintenance. At that time, the ODO meter showed 13,000 km. The workshop staff said that I only needed to replace the air conditioner filter for about 300,000 VND. The total maintenance cost was 600,000 VND. I was surprised because I didn't think car maintenance was that cheap.
VF 7 is my first car so I am not very familiar with this cost. But my brothers and friends who have used the car for many years said that the cost is cheap compared to other models in the same segment.
“Never worry about charging stations”
- Is it risky to choose an electric car as your first car when you have no experience using cars before?
I did a lot of research before deciding. In terms of range, the VF 7 Plus’s ability to travel nearly 500 km per charge is a big number for my needs and the needs of most electric vehicle users in general. I have never run out of battery without resting, and to drive a car with a depleted battery requires a lot of strength.
- Having traveled many far places with VinFast VF 7, including mountain passes, how do you rate the driving experience?
The other day, the VinFast VF 7 group met to talk. Some of them have used many generations of cars, including BMW, and they rate the VinFast VF 7 as the best car to drive in its price range. I myself agree with that. Because the car drives well, I like to use the VF 7 often. Sometimes when I have nothing to do, I just drive it around.
Some people say that the VinFast VF 7 steering wheel is a bit stiff at speeds above 60 km/h. This feeling depends on each person's perspective, but for me, the steering wheel feels firm when going through puddles or potholes at high speed.
Mr. Dong is completely confident in taking VF 7 on long journeys.
- One of the things that first-time electric vehicle users are concerned about is charging station infrastructure. Have you ever had problems finding a charging station?
Not at all. I have never had to worry about charging stations. In Vietnam, VinFast users are given priority because charging stations are everywhere. I go to the inner city and suburbs and see so many charging stations that it makes me feel like I am driving a gas car, so I no longer have any concerns about charging.
Besides, as I said, I can't run out of battery in one go. The same goes for everyone else, everyone needs to rest, eat, and use the bathroom. If there are elderly people on the bus, the frequency of rest breaks is even greater.
When I intend to rest, I will find a charging station to rest, and charging stations usually have services and decent restaurants. During that rest time, I take advantage of the time to charge.
- Thank you for sharing!
