In the context of the world economy with many potential instabilities, increasing protectionism and increasingly strict non-tariff barriers, the Vietnamese agricultural sector, especially highly seasonal products, is under great pressure to maintain orders, maintain market share and improve competitiveness in the international market. Major import markets for Vietnamese agricultural products are constantly tightening technical standards, environment, traceability and labor conditions, along with increasingly fierce trade competition, causing domestic enterprises to face many difficulties. Domestically, production is still mainly small-scale, lacking value chain linkages, and backward preservation and processing technology; seasonal characteristics make the pressure of harvesting, transporting and consuming agricultural products become intense, easily causing congestion and price drops...
From that reality, the conference focused on discussing the following contents: an overview of the production, domestic and export situation of agricultural products, especially seasonal agricultural products such as lychee, longan, mango, rambutan, dragon fruit, etc.; an assessment of the current situation and trends in some traditional export markets as well as the advantages and difficulties in expanding and diversifying the market of enterprises in the industry. At the same time, proposing and recommending specific solutions for the Vietnamese trade office system and functional agencies to support the industry in the coming time; promoting trade to support seasonal agricultural products for enterprises, the coordinating role of the Central and local governments, etc.
Many opinions say that, to promote sustainable fruit and vegetable exports, there needs to be effective coordination between functional agencies from the central to local levels, business associations/industries and enterprises to jointly solve current difficulties and promote seasonal fruit and vegetable exports. In particular, the immediate solution is to consider and apply digital technology , simplify cumbersome export procedures to quickly clear goods through border gates, seaports, airports, and prioritize customs clearance of highly seasonal and perishable goods.
In the long term, it is necessary to focus on investing in growing areas, clean and safe production processes, and clear traceability; improving the capacity to control pesticide residues and heavy metals; supporting investment in developing additional processing and refined processing technologies to diversify high value-added products; investing in logistics and post-harvest technology to reduce loss and ensure product quality...
