According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Chu Pah district, the total annual rice cultivation area of the district reaches nearly 4,000 hectares (over 1,540 hectares in the winter-spring crop and 2,342 hectares in the summer-autumn crop). To improve productivity and quality in cultivation, from 2022 to present, the district has spent more than 7.52 billion VND to implement 4 projects on intensive cultivation of new rice varieties in 14 communes and towns. Specifically, the district has supported 228 tons of rice seeds of various types for more than 42,898 households cultivating on an area of 2,280 hectares, mainly the following varieties: HN6, DT100, J02, BC15, HG12 and TBR97. During the implementation process, the district supported agricultural materials (nearly 200 tons of lime powder) and organized nearly 50 training courses and field conferences to support people in farming techniques.

Mr. Le Duc Thu, an official of the Land and Agriculture Department of Chu Dang Ya Commune, said: The annual cultivated area of the commune is only over 500 hectares compared to 788.57 hectares because some areas are flooded in the rainy season or have high fields or are drought-prone in the dry season. Moreover, ethnic minorities have the habit of using old rice varieties for 6 months for cultivation, so the yield is only 4-4.5 tons/ha. However, from 2023 to now, the district has implemented 3 intensive farming projects to support people with 26 tons of TBR97 and DT100 rice varieties on an area of nearly 260 hectares. Through evaluation results, the yield is 6.5-7 tons/ha. From this result, in the Winter-Spring crop, people have deployed 100% of the area to use the above 2 varieties and this crop has reached over 85%.
Joining us to visit the village's rice fields during the harvest season, Mr. Dinh Van Loi - Party Cell Secretary and Head of Doan Ket Village (Chu Dang Ya Commune) excitedly said: The village has 75 households cultivating more than 10 hectares of wet rice per crop. For 3 consecutive years (2023-2025), 100% of households have been supported by the district to guide them in planting new rice varieties TBR97 and DT100. "Previously, ethnic minorities used rice varieties that took 6 months to harvest, so the yield was very low. This rice variety has tall stems, so it often fell over. Since the introduction of TBR97 and DT100 rice varieties into cultivation, the yield has reached 6.5-7 tons/ha, 2 tons/ha higher than the old variety".

Meanwhile, people in Wet village (Chu Dang Ya commune) are also excited to apply the new rice variety that brings high productivity. Mr. Ro Cham Hung said: "My family has 1 hectare of rice. Previously, I planted the old rice variety which only yielded 3 tons/ha. Since the district supported the new DT100 rice variety and received technical guidance, the yield has reached about 6 tons/ha. The new rice variety has a low, hard stem and the time from sowing to harvest is about 90-105 days".
Similarly, in Nghia Hung commune, Ms. Le Thi Tinh - an official of the commune's Land and Agriculture Department said: In 2 years (2024-2025), the district has supported nearly 19 tons of HN100 and HG12 rice varieties for 580 households in the commune. "For the HG12 rice variety supported in 2025, people have just been provided with seeds; for the HN100 rice variety supported in 2024, people have sown and sown it with a yield of 6.5 tons/ha, 1 ton/ha higher than before taking care of it according to the project's process" - Ms. Tinh said.

Mr. Le Xuan Dung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Chu Pah district - affirmed: Through the practical implementation of the new rice variety model by households, it shows that the yield reaches 6-7 tons/ha, 1-1.5 tons/ha higher than the area not applying the model. Currently, the implementation of new varieties has been widely replicated by farmers in the district, accounting for about 75% of the annual cultivated area. We hope that this result will gradually form the habit of using new varieties as well as applying techniques to cultivation to improve the rice productivity of local people, especially ethnic minority households. Thereby, contributing to ensuring food security as well as creating a premise for building the rice brand of Chu Pah district, towards the development of sustainable agriculture.
