Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/03/2025

On March 18, the US National Archives released thousands of pages of documents in the files related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy under the direction of US President Donald Trump.

The release of the documents comes after President Trump signed an executive order requiring the release of all remaining records on the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy, according to The Hill . In addition, Mr. Trump also pledged to declassify records on the assassinations of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Robert Kennedy, the brother of Mr. Kennedy.

The executive order requires the director of national intelligence and the attorney general to present a plan within 15 days for "full and complete release of records" related to Kennedy's assassination.

For years, the assassination of President Kennedy in November 1963 has been the subject of controversy over who was responsible for it. At the time, the only perpetrator identified was Lee Harvey Oswald.

However, many conspiracy theories have emerged, including those suggesting the involvement of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the mafia and the possibility of a second gunman in the incident.

The US Congress passed a law in 1992 requiring all remaining government records related to the Kennedy assassination to be released by October 2017, excluding certain documents that pose a risk to national security or intelligence.

During his first term (2017-2021), President Trump pledged to release all documents on the Kennedy assassination, but later extended the deadline to keep some of the records secret. Under former President Joe Biden, the National Archives released nearly 13,000 additional records in 2022.

President Trump said on March 18 that more than 80,000 pages of documents would be released. Experts say the remaining unreleased documents are unlikely to contain significant revelations. Most of the files related to the assassination have already been made public.
