The match between two Brazilian representatives Palmeiras and Botafogo attracted special attention from fans. The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup witnessed the success of Brazilian football when 4 teams entered the round of 16, in which Palmeiras and Botafogo had to eliminate each other early.

Being slightly underestimated, Botafogo started the game quite slowly. They proactively gave up ball control to their opponents and used a defensive counter-attacking style of play.
Throughout the first half, Botafogo's goal was constantly under pressure from the opponent's relentless attacks. However, Palmeiras' attack was not sharp in finishing, so the first 45 minutes ended without any goals scored.
In the second half, Palmeiras continued to push their squad forward to attack. In the 50th minute, Estevao Willian put the ball into Botafogo's net but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Botafogo's defense had a resilient match, notably goalkeeper John Victor also played very focused to repeatedly deny the opponent's scoring opportunities.

After a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes, Palmeiras and Botafogo had to go into extra time. The highlight came in the 100th minute, when substitute Paulinho made a daring dribble before finishing with a tricky shot into the Botafogo net, opening the scoring for Palmeiras.
In the remaining time, Palmeiras tried their best to protect the score, even accepting to play with one less man because of Gustavo Gomez's red card in the 116th minute. Botafogo's attack was deadlocked and accepted defeat in the great battle of Brazilian football.
In the end, Palmeiras won 1-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, where they will face the winner of the match between Chelsea and Benfica in the round of 16.
