Sharing research results on lotus value chain and flood-based agricultural model

DTO - On June 27, the Department of Agriculture and Environment coordinated with the World Wildlife Fund in Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) to organize an international conference "Sharing research results on lotus value chains and studying the possibility of replicating flood-based agricultural models in Dong Thap, Long An, and An Giang".

Attending the conference were officials and civil servants from the agriculture and environment sector; companies, business households, lotus farmers and related units inside and outside the province.

Experts share research results on flood-based agricultural models

At the conference, representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Environment informed delegates about the orientation of Dong Thap province in developing natural agriculture and ecological agriculture until 2030. Experts also introduced the project of ecological agriculture and natural agriculture and shared the results of the Lotus value chain study in 3 provinces: Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang . At the same time, a thematic report on the development and replication of flood-based agricultural models and the effectiveness of natural agriculture models was presented.

Delegates exchange and discuss at the conference

Thereby, the delegates spent time exchanging and discussing the results of research on ecological and natural agricultural models in the provinces; connecting resources to promote green economic models: opportunities and challenges; analyzing the lotus value chain for key and potential lotus products in: Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang; proposing solutions to upgrade the chain for key and potential products in the 3 provinces.

According to experts, flood-based livelihood models in the upstream area have great adaptability, suitable for natural conditions according to geographical space. Areas within the dyke create stable conditions for traditional agricultural production. Meanwhile, lotus, fish farming, and floating rice models are concentrated in areas outside the dyke, where there are characteristics of deep flooding, rich in alluvial nutrients and an ecological environment favorable for the development of flood-based livelihood models. Therefore, flood-based livelihood models have the potential to be invested in the Mekong Delta.
