Spending nearly 10 million VND to send her child to 8-day summer camp, mother in Hanoi was upset when picking up her child.

Social media is spreading a post by a mother in Hanoi with the content: "Sending my child to summer camp, when he came back he brought back a bunch of skin cream and scars on his heart."

Less than 24 hours after being posted, the article received nearly 2,000 shares and nearly 4,000 comments.

I went out excitedly, but when I came back I was itchy and depressed.

Specifically, this mother said that her child participated in a summer camp program for children that lasted 8 days and 7 nights. When she left, she was excited. But when she picked her up, her family had to take her to the doctor and treat her dermatitis. In particular, the child was psychologically affected by bullying.

"I calmly reported to the organizing team, hoping to receive feedback, but what I received in return was disrespect and blame," the mother wrote.

Contacting Ms. CNL - the person who posted the article, the reporter learned that Ms. L. sent her two children (a 12-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son) to attend a summer camp called LHH in Thai Nguyen from June 25 to July 1, at a cost of VND9,350,000/person (15% discount).

"My husband and I researched and thought about it for 2 months before sending our child to summer camp. The cost is not cheap, so we hope our child will have a rewarding summer, with many experiences in the countryside, be trained to be independent, and make new friends..." , she said.

According to the regulations of the organizing committee, the participating children are aged 9-15, with separate toilet and resting areas for boys and girls. Children are not allowed to bring phones to focus on participating in activities and building connections with friends in the group.

"The organizers created a Zalo group for parents whose children are participating in the camp. Every day, the organizers will update the children's pictures and activities at 7-8am, 12-1pm, 6-7pm and the coordinator will answer parents' questions after 10pm. On the third day, the child was called home for a bit, but before that, the organizers informed parents that they should only encourage their children, not ask if they miss home, etc. to avoid psychological effects. Seeing many pictures of the child playing happily, I feel more secure," said Ms. L.

On July 1, when picking up their two children, Ms. L. and her husband were shocked when their 10-year-old son said that for the past 8 days, he had not defecated because... the toilet was too dirty.

"My child's skin was dark, his face was tired and sad. He said he would not go to summer camp anymore. When I checked him, I saw a dense rash all over his body. The organizers also told me he had a rash and they applied medicine to him, but when he got home, he was still itchy and uncomfortable," said Ms. L.

"When my child went on the experience, my husband and I determined that he might get darker, thinner, and even have rashes. However, his condition was beyond imagination. He was still young and timid, so when he couldn't go to the toilet, he didn't tell anyone to get help. In addition, my child was bullied by his campmates, with them hitting him in the chest, cursing him, and kicking him in the stomach. When he returned, he showed signs of mental instability and his health had clearly declined. He said he didn't dare tell anyone at the summer camp because he was too afraid of his friend," Ms. L. was indignant.

"My child told me that a 15-year-old inmate held him, hugged him, touched his cheek, fondled him, and used inappropriate words. After hearing that, the family was very shocked and worried," she added.

According to Ms. L., the 12-year-old girl did not experience the same situation as her brother because she had better problem-solving skills and good friends in the camp. However, she said the sanitation area was very poor, smelled bad, and children often had to shower with cold water.

"And like her brother, my daughter doesn't want to go back to summer camp this year. Hearing what they say, my heart aches," Ms. L. shared.

Ms. L. proactively reported the incidents her child encountered to the Organizing Committee. However, according to her, the Organizing Committee responded in a negative manner, and even spoke disrespectfully to the parents.

"The way the organizers handled it made me very disappointed, especially when the program was advertised as 'safe, emotionallyeducational , and aimed at the comprehensive development of children'," said Ms. L.

According to the screenshot provided by Ms. L., when she reported that her son was being bullied, the organizers responded: "There are many boys in the group, they joke and play very closely with each other, so the teachers and coordinators really cannot tell when it is real and when it is a joke. All the teachers and coordinators did not see anything unusual between the two children until their mother reported it."

When Ms. L. and some parents complained about the dirty toilets, the organizers responded: "Parents expect their children to go on an experience but they come back complaining that the toilets are dirty, so they should analyze how dirty they are."

This person also sent a message in the Zalo group: "If parents feel uncomfortable, then next time don't let your child go."

The messages were posted publicly by Ms. L. on social media. Many netizens expressed their anger at the way the summer camp organizers received and responded to the information.

Many parents speak out

Ms. P., another parent in Hanoi, also has 2 children aged 10 and 7 attending the summer camp with Ms. L.'s child, at a cost of 8,800,000 VND/child (discounted). When picking up her child, Ms. P. saw that her child's back had rashes and his face had many red, swollen spots due to insect bites.

"My eldest son attended a summer camp organized by another unit last year and enjoyed it very much. This year, he was eager to attend this summer camp, but when he returned, he was not happy at all," said Ms. P.

"According to the announcement, this summer camp only accepts children from 9 to 15 years old, but when I said my 7-year-old son wanted to join with me, the organizers agreed. However, instead of the initial expectations, my young son also complained that the toilet was dirty, the sleeping place had no mattress, the mosquito net was torn so there were many mosquitoes, and the blanket was not warm enough.

The children also said the swimming pool was not clean and had a lot of mosquito larvae. According to the pictures sent by the organizers to the parents, I also saw that the dining area was sketchy. The child of a friend of mine who also went on this trip said that he felt hungry and could not sleep at night," Ms. P. shared.

"The cost of the course is not cheap, but I feel that the services the children receive are not commensurate, and the living facilities are poor. Last year, my child also attended a summer camp with a similar cost, but the food, accommodation, and hygiene conditions were much better. I feel that this summer camp is like hanging a goat's head and selling dog meat. Experiencing village life, there may not be air conditioning, electronic equipment... but there must be basic facilities that are safe and hygienic," said Ms. P.

Similar to Ms. L., Ms. P. was also upset because the organizers responded to the parents' complaints in a lack of goodwill. Under Ms. L.'s post, many other parents commented on the hygiene and service of this summer camp. Account Huyen Trang wrote: " My child and many friends in the group had diarrhea when they came back."

Account Ha Nguyen Thi Thu wrote: "It must be said that the program is well written, but not properly implemented. The restroom is dirty, some people commented that it is due to the children's poor awareness."

The reporter contacted the summer camp organizers to find out more accurate information about the above reflections but has not received an official response.

According to the introduction from the Organizing Committee, when coming to the summer camp, children will participate by themselves without the accompaniment of their parents. Experiencing alone will help children practice independence, know how to solve problems, practice many skills such as communication, negotiation... In the summer camp area, there are always medical staff on duty. Each staff is trained in first aid skills to be ready to handle unexpected situations.

There are also many posts praising this summer camp on social media.
