A VNA correspondent in Phnom Penh quoted a Cambodian press release saying that the two sides committed to implementing the results of the special meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on July 28, as well as the Joint Border Committee (GBC) meeting on August 7 in Malaysia.

The two sides also agreed to maintain regular contact between all military regions and units along the Cambodia-Thailand border, making efforts to resolve all issues peacefully and avoid conflicts.

The two sides emphasized the positive momentum and forward-looking spirit in strengthening relations through these activities, and affirmed the importance of further enhancing communication at all levels to build trust and promote good neighborly relations.

The two sides agreed in principle to establish a Coordination Group (CG) to enhance information exchange at all levels, including between commanders, border liaison working groups, regular forces in border areas and combat units along the Cambodia-Thai border, to resolve all issues peacefully and avoid conflicts. Details will be discussed at the upcoming RBC meeting.

At the meeting, Cambodia reaffirmed the importance of promoting humanitarian mine clearance activities, noting that progress depends on the full implementation of the ceasefire and the restoration of normalcy along the border.

As the border demarcation is currently underway, demining may be considered in demarcated areas or in non-disputed areas, as agreed by the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).

On the issue of online fraud, Cambodia stressed that it is very concerned about this issue along with other types of transnational crimes. Cambodia and Thailand have cooperated in addressing the issue of online fraud, and this issue may be discussed further at the upcoming GBC Conference.

Cambodia also stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could inadvertently escalate tensions, including the placement of barbed wire, the destruction of existing infrastructure, especially civilian housing, as well as the spread of disinformation, as such developments risk eroding trust and undermining efforts to maintain a stable and peaceful environment.

In an effort to return the border situation to normal, Cambodia called on both sides to seek all necessary and practical measures to normalize relations in all fields as soon as possible.

This will help enhance mutual trust and confidence, while minimizing any negative impacts on the lives and livelihoods of the people of the two countries. The two sides also agreed to convene another RBC meeting in Cambodia within a month after this extraordinary meeting./.
