The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on the evening of August 16, the low pressure area in the central East Sea had strengthened into a tropical depression. It is forecasted that in the next 24-48 hours, the tropical depression will move northwestward, towards the Gulf of Tonkin.
It is forecasted that tonight, the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City and the South East Sea area (including Truong Sa special zone) will have strong southwest winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas, and waves 2-3.5m high.
In addition, the northern sea area of the North East Sea has strong East wind level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough sea, waves 2-3.5m high. The central East Sea area has strong wind level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough sea, waves 2-3.5m high.
In addition, in the Gulf of Tonkin, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang , the Gulf of Thailand, and the entire North, Central, and South East Sea (including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa special zones) there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind, and waves over 3.5m high.

According to the Hydrometeorological Agency, on the day and night of August 17, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ho Chi Minh City and the South East Sea area (including Truong Sa special zone) will have strong southwest winds of level 6 during the day, gusting to level 7-8, and the wind will gradually decrease at night.
In addition, the northern sea area of the North East Sea has strong East to Southeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8. The central East Sea area has strong winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8.
To proactively respond to the low pressure area that has strengthened into a tropical depression, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment recommends that localities closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts and developments of tropical depressions.
The Ministry requested localities to notify captains and owners of vehicles and vessels operating at sea to proactively prevent and adjust production plans, ensuring safety of people and property. At the same time, maintain communication to promptly handle bad situations that may occur.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also requested localities to prepare forces and means to deploy rescue work when there is a situation.
