Facing an opponent with superior physique and strength, the Vietnamese women's team encountered many difficulties right from the first minutes. In the 17th minute, McKenna fired a long-range shot from 25m away, sending the ball straight into Kim Thanh's net, raising the score to 2-0 for U23 Australia.

In the following minutes, the Vietnamese women's team tried to attack and created many opportunities, but Huynh Nhu and Bich Thuy were unable to capitalize on them. That was Bich Thuy's brilliant moment, when she juggled the ball over the head of an Australian U23 defender and then fired a shot from a narrow angle to defeat goalkeeper Lincoln.
