Ban cars with more than 29 seats from entering Nha Trang center

Báo Tổ quốcBáo Tổ quốc17/12/2024

(To Quoc) - Tourism businesses must change the practice of transporting tourists to the door of hotels in Nha Trang by cars with more than 29 seats as before, according to the Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee.

At the second dialogue with businesses in 2024, on the morning of December 17, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan frankly said that tourism and travel businesses need to change their operations right now, because "no one will take tourists by car with more than 29 seats to the hotel door".

“Tran Phu Street is so small but it is crowded with cars. Meanwhile, what have tourism and travel businesses contributed to improving the green, clean and beautiful environment of Nha Trang city?”, the Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee asked.

In early December, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee agreed to ban cars with more than 29 seats, including tourist vehicles with badges, from entering the center of Nha Trang during rush hours (6:30-7:30 and 16:30-18:30). The ban area is from the east of Le Hong Phong Street to Tran Phu Street, south of Cai River to the north of Binh Tan Bridge.

This is a measure proposed by Khanh Hoa province to reduce traffic congestion, ensure safety and limit impacts on the lives of people in Nha Trang. After a survey, it was found that cars with more than 29 seats, including cars with "tourist car" badges, often circulate during rush hour, causing congestion on central roads, especially in areas with many restaurants, hotels, offices, schools, etc., causing frustration among residents and tourists.

According to statistics, Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has granted "tourist car" badges to 450 cars with more than 29 seats and continues to process applications for qualified vehicles. Not to mention, there are also vehicles with badges from other provinces and cities operating in Nha Trang.

However, at the dialogue, Mr. Pham Minh Nhut - Vice President of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association commented that the recent traffic congestion in Nha Trang only occurred "locally" on some routes during events and festivals. He also recommended that Nha Trang authorities should regulate and divide traffic more reasonably instead of banning, especially at the intersection of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai - To Hien Thanh and Tran Phu streets.

According to Mr. Pham Minh Nhut, technology taxis and electric cars are parked everywhere, causing 29-seat cars to stop on the road when they arrive at hotels to pick up and drop off guests, causing traffic jams. And the proposal is to only ban certain routes, because if the entire Nha Trang is banned, it will greatly affect local tourism development.

Mr. Pham Minh Nhut cited that train passengers often get off at dawn to go to Nha Trang for vacation. Similarly, cruise ships arrive at 6am and depart at 4pm. Banning vehicles as the province has proposed will cause difficulties in picking up and dropping off passengers, affecting tourism businesses.

Responding to the petition, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan suggested that tourism businesses change the way they transport guests by large vehicles to the hotel door. Businesses need to find more suitable ways to transfer guests to the center, hotels, and tourist attractions.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan affirmed that Khanh Hoa is ready to accompany and share with tourism businesses to build Nha Trang into a civilized, friendly, and clean destination. He emphasized that businesses need to contribute to the community and wishes to cooperate in the spirit of "harmonious benefits and shared risks", while also suggesting the possibility that Tran Phu Street could become a walking street along the Nha Trang coast in the future./.
