Schools in Cam Xuyen focus on overcoming major damage after storm

(Baohatinh.vn) - After storm No. 5, schools in Cam Xuyen commune (Ha Tinh province) suffered heavy damage to school facilities.

At Cam Xuyen 2 Primary School, the entire roof of the school building and 15 square meters of the roof of the two-story school building were blown off; some roof tiles were severely damaged. In addition, 20 large trees were knocked down, and the school's billboards and signs were broken and displaced. The total damage was estimated at over 450 million VND.

The work of overcoming the consequences of the storm at the school is being urgently carried out by teachers and parents, with the spirit of both cleaning and repairing. Immediately after the storm, the school proactively mobilized the entire staff, teachers, and parents to participate in cleaning up fallen trees, dismantling damaged roofs, and temporarily covering severely affected areas.

The damaged roofs, especially the administrative building and the two-story school building, have been inspected and measured to come up with a plan for repair soon. Damaged classrooms are also being replaced piecemeal to ensure the safety of students when they return to school. Despite many difficulties in terms of resources, with the collective effort, the school is making efforts to overcome them before the new school year.

Ms. Vu Thi Lan Phuong - Vice Principal of Cam Xuyen 2 Town Primary School said: "The roof system of the school's roof was blown away because the bricks and tiles were built a long time ago. Currently, the school is mobilizing maximum support from parents and teachers to quickly fix the damage and stabilize the learning environment."

Nguyen Huu Thai Secondary School had many fallen trees, collapsed fences, blown-off toilet roofs, and many facilities seriously damaged.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Huu Thai Secondary School (Cam Xuyen Commune) also suffered heavy damage with 18 trees falling, many fences collapsing, the roof of the student restroom blown off, and 10 windows and 1 door severely damaged. The damage at the school is estimated at hundreds of millions of dong.

Immediately after the storm passed, although the school yard was still flooded, the school quickly deployed the repair work with a sense of urgency, not waiting for the water to recede before starting the cleanup. The Board of Directors mobilized all teachers, staff, and with the support of parents and students, to clean up fallen trees, check the damaged roof, and temporarily cover the damaged classrooms.

This proactive and decisive action demonstrates the school's high sense of responsibility in quickly stabilizing facilities and ensuring safety to welcome students back to school on schedule.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thuc - Principal of Nguyen Huu Thai Secondary School said: "As soon as the storm passed, the school immediately mobilized staff, teachers and parents to participate in overcoming the consequences. We prioritized repairing items that directly affect classrooms and sanitation to ensure that students can return to school in safe and stable conditions."

In addition to the two schools most severely affected, other schools in Cam Xuyen commune also recorded a lot of damage. Cam Xuyen town secondary school had its garage roof blown off, 4 trees fell, the multi-purpose house and main door damaged, total damage estimated at over 200 million VND. Cam Quang Primary School and Phan Dinh Giot Primary & Secondary School both had dozens of trees blown off, and the roofs of some auxiliary items blown off.

Cam Xuyen Town Kindergarten recorded major damage with 6 trees falling, many classroom roofs blown away, and the door system of the subject room severely damaged – total damage of more than 300 million VND. Cam Quang and Cam Quan Kindergartens were also affected to a lesser extent, mainly trees and fences.

Immediately after the storm, the Cam Xuyen commune government urgently directed schools in the area to count the damage and have a plan to thoroughly overcome it.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Vice Chairman of Cam Xuyen Commune People's Committee commented: "The damage to schools is very serious. The commune government has directed schools to urgently overcome the situation with a proactive spirit, and at the same time hopes to receive timely support from all levels and sectors of the province to ensure that teaching and learning is not interrupted."

Currently, the cleaning and repair work is being actively carried out by the schools. Despite many difficulties, with the consensus of the teachers, parents and the participation of the local government, the schools in Cam Xuyen commune are making every effort to be ready to welcome students back in safe and stable learning conditions.
