After its establishment, Rach Gia ward has a natural area of 45.53 km2 and a population of 250,661 people. Mr. Le Van Ca, a long-time resident of Tho Chau, said: "In the new atmosphere, I expect the Party and the government of An Giang province and Tho Chau special zone to focus on investing, especially in tourism services, so that Tho Chau will become a new bright spot in the southwesternmost coastal region of the country". Up to now, preparations have been made to ensure that local authorities in commune-level administrative units formed after the arrangement will officially operate from July 1, 2025.
Five new communes in Thoai Son district (old), including Thoai Son, Tay Phu, Oc Eo, Dinh My, Vinh Trach, Phu Hoa, held a ceremony to announce the province's decision on commune merger. Vinh Xuong commune was merged from 3 communes: Phu Loc, Vinh Hoa, Vinh Xuong (Tan Chau town). This is a border commune of the province, with an area of 50.21km² and a population of over 41,369 people. Sharing the joy of this event, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Vinh Xuong commune Tran Van Tien said that the merger of administrative units and the implementation of the 2-level local government model is a major policy of the Party and State aiming at the goal of building a streamlined, effective, efficient administrative apparatus and serving the people better, thereby expanding development space and attracting investment.
