Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development adjusts spring water intake time in 11 Northern provinces

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , as of 3:00 p.m. on February 10, the water area in the entire Northern Midlands and Delta region was 451,762 hectares/488,615 hectares, reaching 92.5% of the 2025 Spring crop planting plan.

7/11 localities have basically completed the water intake plan including: Thai Binh 100%, Nam Dinh 99%, Ha Nam 99%, Phu Tho 97%, Ninh Binh 97%, Hung Yen 96%, Bac Ninh 92%; the remaining localities have relatively high water-sufficient areas including: Hai Duong 91%, Hai Phong 85%, Hanoi 80%, Vinh Phuc 79%.

Hanoi 's water intake rate has reached more than 80% of the plan for the entire 2025 Spring crop.

Based on the progress of water intake, actual inspection results, opinions of specialized agencies and discussions with leaders of People's Committees and Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of some provinces and cities, to minimize the discharge from hydroelectric reservoirs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has directed the adjustment of the 2nd water intake phase.

Specifically, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to maintain the current supplementary water source until 24:00 on February 11, 2025. For the remaining time of Phase 2 (from 0:00 on February 12 to 24:00 on February 14, 2025), the water level at Son Tay station (Hanoi) will be continuously maintained at 1.3m.

After the end of Phase 2, hydroelectric reservoirs will operate according to the inter-reservoir operation process so that localities can complete 100% of the planting area and serve irrigation.

To complete the water intake plan according to the need for sowing, the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) recommends that localities that have not completed the water intake plan strengthen solutions, operate irrigation works to the maximum to complete the water intake plan for sowing and storing water for irrigation.

Along with that, continue to propagate and mobilize people to coordinate with units exploiting irrigation works to bring water to the fields, keep water tight, organize land preparation and planting early within the recommended time frame to avoid water loss and waste.
