On September 5, at a regular press conference, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered reporters' questions about response measures and citizen protection in the context of the approaching super typhoon Yagi.
Specifically, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed that today (September 5), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed an official dispatch directing ministries, branches and localities to focus on urgent response to storm No. 3, promptly and effectively implementing storm prevention and response work with the spirit of proactive prevention at the highest level.
"Immediately after receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed Vietnamese representative agencies in China and the Philippines to proactively contact local authorities, requesting that they create conditions for Vietnamese vessels to take shelter, avoid, support rescue and repair vessels if necessary," said Ms. Hang.
At the same time, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also sent a diplomatic note to the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi to request coordination with relevant authorities in the host country to support Vietnamese vessels if necessary and to assign staff to be on duty 24/7 to promptly support contact with domestic and foreign agencies and promptly respond to storm No. 3.
Typhoon Yagi is considered a very strong storm, with a high level of natural disaster risk and complex developments. According to the Prime Minister's telegram, typhoon No. 3 on the morning of September 5 strengthened into a super typhoon, with the strongest wind near the eye of the storm reaching level 16, gusting over level 17. It is forecasted that from tomorrow morning the typhoon will directly affect the Gulf of Tonkin with the strongest wind near the eye of the storm reaching level 13-14, gusting to level 16.
From tomorrow night, the storm will directly affect the mainland of the Northeast and North Central regions of our country with the strongest wind speed possibly reaching level 10-12, gusting to level 13-14 and affecting deep inland, the storm is likely to cause strong winds, rising water, large waves at sea and along the coast, strong winds and widespread heavy rain on land.
