Binh Dinh receives the National Heritage Certificate for Phu Gia horse hat weaving craft

On September 12, the Department of Culture and Sports of Binh Dinh province coordinated with the People's Committee of Phu Cat district to organize a ceremony to receive the national intangible cultural heritage certificate "Phu Gia horse hat making craft" in Cat Tuong commune.

Phu Gia traditional horse hat weaving craft village is located in Phu Gia village, Cat Tuong commune, and is over 200 years old.

Phu Gia horse hat is a famous traditional handicraft product, maintained, practiced and passed down from generation to generation by the people.

Phu Gia horse hats are handmade, going through 10 different stages from creating the frame to traditional embroidery, leaf weaving... The hats are made into 10 layers with materials such as palm leaves, giang tubes, pineapple roots... that grow naturally in the forest, so they are very durable, sturdy and can last 150-200 years.

Phu Gia horse hat products, as a unique work of art, are a cultural heritage and the pride of the local people. Phu Gia horse hat marks the formation and development of Phu Cat, is a product containing the long-standing historical and cultural values of Phu Cat people.

In addition to traditional horse hats, Phu Gia craft village also produces many types of innovative hats, some materials are also changed to suit market trends.

Phu Gia horse hat weaving craft is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, affirming the sustainable value and strong vitality of the craft village; honoring and praising the community and artisans in preserving, conserving and promoting the value of the heritage.

Currently, Phu Gia horse hat craft village has been recognized by Binh Dinh province as a traditional craft village, achieved the title of Typical Craft Village of Vietnam and become a famous tourist destination of Binh Dinh.

With the Phu Gia horse-hat making craft being honored as a national intangible cultural heritage, Binh Dinh province has 5 heritages on this list. They are: Traditional martial arts, Hat Boi, Bai Choi, Ba Pagoda - Nuoc Man Port Festival in Phuoc Quang commune, Tuy Phuoc district and Phu Gia horse-hat making craft.
