At around 3:00 p.m. on June 26, 5 students from team 8 of An Loi village, Phuoc Thang commune, Tuy Phuoc district, played volleyball at the village cultural house, then invited each other to go swimming at Dong Coi culvert in Lac Dien village (about 500m away).
After that, 3 children showed signs of drowning and the remaining 2 children quickly reported to nearby people. Immediately after that, the commune authorities and a large number of people rushed to the rescue. However, 3 children still drowned, including: TCS (born in 2011, 8th grade student at Phuoc Thang Secondary School), TNTV (born in 2010, 9th grade student at Cat Tien Secondary School), N.D.TH (born in 2009, 10th grade student at Tuy Phuoc 3 School).
Chairman of the Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Cong said: Immediately after receiving the news, the commune government mobilized cadres and employees to coordinate with local people to continuously search.
At around 5pm the same day, the rescue team was able to rescue one child and then at around 5:30pm, they continued to search for another child and at around 7pm the last child was rescued. Immediately after finding the children, the rescue team helped bring the victims home.
It is known that the place where the 3 children drowned is a sewer that flows into Thi Nai lagoon. Beyond the sewer is an alluvial land, so children in the commune often come here to play soccer and then jump into the puddles to bathe. Some areas of the water here are very deep.
According to Chairman Nguyen Van Cong, the commune government directly went to the scene to visit and encourage; at the same time support the victims' families in difficult times.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the tragic accident.
