To achieve its current position, Quang Tri Eye Hospital had to overcome many difficulties in terms of human resources, facilities and finance. In limited conditions, the medical staff had to ensure daily medical examination and treatment, participate in training, transfer technology, and prepare infrastructure to meet the ranking criteria. This is a process that requires perseverance and strategic vision from the leadership team, officers and employees in the unit.
Recently, the hospital has focused on implementing specialized techniques for posterior segment diseases - a field that previously depended on upper-level centers. Some outstanding techniques deployed by the unit include vitrectomy surgery, treatment of vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment; intraocular injection of anti-VEGF drugs in the treatment of macular degeneration, macular edema due to retinal vascular occlusion, diabetic retinopathy; diagnostic imaging using OCT-A, new generation B-scan ultrasound... In 2024, the unit has equipped a number of modern equipment to serve patients.
The Quang Tri Provincial Community Development Fund donated a lens power measuring machine to the hospital. This machine is an important factor in the diagnosis and cataract surgery to relieve blindness for the people. The hospital's high-tech building was completed and put into operation, including a sterile operating room system, a one-way intraocular injection area, and a closed inpatient treatment area, creating favorable conditions for the safe and effective implementation of high technology. These developments not only help people in the province access high-quality services right at the local level but also reduce the burden on the upper-level health system, saving costs and time for patients.
The hospital always strives to improve service quality, bringing satisfaction to patients, especially in terms of reception, guidance, consultation and timely medical examination triage right at the lobby of the Examination Department. The enthusiastic, dedicated and thoughtful attitude has created trust for patients to feel secure in their treatment. In 2024 alone, the hospital will continue to maintain and develop the treatment of eye trauma, diabetic retinopathy, intraocular injections (antibiotics, AntiVEGF, corticosteroids...), and multi-layer autologous conjunctival grafting techniques. Surgical activities at the unit are maintained and developed.
The hospital has sent staff to participate in domestic and international Ophthalmology scientific seminars in person and online organized by the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association. In addition, the unit has also organized many monthly seminars with rich content, updating new processes and techniques for practical application.
In addition to professional activities, the hospital carries out many charitable activities such as giving glasses to patients, organizing charity meals and many other meaningful activities with high impact. In 2024, the unit continued to receive a gift worth 25 million VND from the Nha Trang Charity Association to support patients in difficult circumstances; the activity of giving calendars and drinking cups to patients treated at the hospital is held annually on the occasion of Tet and spring, creating trust and excitement for patients. In addition, the hospital has also created a separate account for charitable activities to help patients in difficult circumstances when needed.
To further improve the quality of blindness prevention work, the unit closely coordinates with local authorities, facilities and the Association of the Elderly to conduct free eye screening and medication for 9 districts, towns and cities in the area with thousands of examinations. In 2024, the unit will coordinate with schools to conduct refraction examinations for nearly 1,000 students; coordinate with the Community Development Fund to conduct eye examinations for students of 16 primary and secondary schools in Hai Lang district, providing nearly 300 glasses.
In addition, the unit focuses on communication work by building information pages of the unit such as website, facebook, zalo, providing many practical contents and images, creating high trust for patients when coming to the hospital. With the attention and direction of the Department of Health, close coordination between units, the Eye Hospital has deployed 7 training courses on care and prevention of blindness for the elderly in the districts of Hai Lang, Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, Huong Hoa, Dakrong, Dong Ha and Vinh Linh; transferring 1816 capacity to staff working at the district and commune levels.
Organize seminars on ophthalmology for primary health care workers. Through training sessions, the contents and messages of PCML activities were conveyed to the Association of the Elderly to inform people about the basic eye diseases that are the leading causes of blindness in the community.
Being ranked higher is a joy and a worthy recognition for the Eye Hospital, but also poses many challenges for the staff and doctors of the unit. The hospital's responsibility is to continue to innovate, improve professional quality, improve service processes and maintain the trust of patients.
Director of Eye Hospital Bui Thi Van Anh said: “In the next phase, Quang Tri Eye Hospital will promote the training of specialized staff, technical cooperation with leading hospitals, especially perfecting the patient monitoring system using information technology. Hopefully, with the existing foundation, the hospital will firmly step on the path of specialized development, becoming a trusted address in eye care for the people of Quang Tri and neighboring areas.”
