I wish all children can go to school.

For many years, two brothers, Truong Nhat Huy (born in 2011) and Truong Minh Thi (born in 2013), have had to rely on their old and sick aunt and grandmother in Tan Liem village, Trieu Do commune, Trieu Phong district. Huy and Thi's mother suffered from the effects of Agent Orange/dioxin, so she is not wise or alert. The children's education depends on their aunt. Despite her best efforts, the life of the grandmother and the three of them has never been free of hardship. Huy and Thi still cannot happily go to school...

The old house of Mrs. Truong Thi Thanh Tuyen (72 years old), the Huy brothers’ grandmother, has not had any laughter for many years. Because the whole family is still burdened with worries, struggling to make ends meet. “Since I was a child, I have always lived in poverty. In 1990, when I was pregnant with Huy brothers’ mother, I had to work hard, with heavy workloads, and did not eat properly. Therefore, when my child was born, he was very weak, with a deformed head. However, I still tried to work hard to raise him, hoping that he would grow up healthy,” Mrs. Tuyen choked up and said.

Growing up, Huy and his mother, Truong Thi Nga, was often sick and showed signs of mental instability. After being examined, Nga was diagnosed with Agent Orange/dioxin. Feeling sorry for her children who had suffered so much, Ms. Tuyen always took good care of them. However, as time went on, Nga's illness became more and more serious and she could no longer control her behavior.

During her wanderings, Nga became pregnant and gave birth to Huy and Thi. Pain piled on pain when her two children were born, but they were not as healthy and intelligent as other children. Since the two children were born, Mrs. Tuyen and their aunt and uncle tried their best to take care of Huy and Thi, but the mother and children still did not have enough food and clothes. Because Mrs. Tuyen's remaining children also had difficult circumstances, they could not help much.

Mrs. Tuyen's voice suddenly dropped when talking about Truong Nhat Huy's schooling. She said that because the family was so poor, they had to work hard every day, and they didn't know anyone to help with paperwork for him, so even though he was 14 years old, Huy still couldn't go to school. Not being able to go to school, Huy always looked absent-minded, his face always sad. All day long, the boy just stayed at home playing around the house, couldn't help his family with anything, and didn't know what path to take for the future.

Luckier than her brother, Thi had her aunt complete the paperwork and apply for her to go to school under the integration program. Currently, Thi is in 6th grade at Trieu Do Primary and Secondary School, Trieu Phong District.

Mrs. Tuyen emotionally said: “Since Thi started school, my grandchild and I have received a lot of help from teachers and neighbors. However, I am always worried that when Thi goes to higher education and needs more money, I will not know where to rely on because her mother is absent-minded and her grandmother is old and weak. Now, my only wish is that both of my poor grandchildren can go to school, live in love and have joy like many other children”. More than ever, Mrs. Tuyen and her children and grandchildren need the cooperation, care and support from kind-hearted organizations and individuals to have a brighter tomorrow. ..
