With the support of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, in 2024, Mr. Le The Phong, in residential group 10, Dong Son ward, boldly invested in growing organic grapes. The Center supported 50% of the cost of materials, fertilizers and 100% of the cost of VietGAP certification and traceability stamps.
By 2025, after a rigorous testing and inspection process, his grape growing model was certified organic. The products were also given certification labels and traceability.
Mr. Le The Phong shared: "Organic farmers not only protect consumers, but first of all protect themselves and their families. We are the ones who directly take care of the garden, if we use chemicals, we will be affected first. Therefore, I am always aware of clean production for sustainable development. Prestigious organic products, trusted by users, are the biggest motivation for farmers."
Mr. Phong's organic vineyard has an area of 2,000m2 , currently growing 350 peony grape trees and 20 ruby red grape trees for testing. Of these, 72 peony grape trees are in the main season, with a yield of about 1 ton; the remaining grape trees are in the pre-harvest season and some are being cared for for the Lunar New Year crop. After deducting all costs, the model brings in a profit of more than 340 million VND, about 200 million VND higher than conventional farming.
In addition to the organic grape model, the center has also implemented an intensive care model and organic certification on bamboo shoots at Ms. Le Thi Mai Hoa's household, Bang village, Hoan Lao commune, with a scale of 1,800 trees/1.8ha.
Ms. Hoa said: After deducting direct production costs and labor, the model gives a profit of about 830 million VND, about 300 million VND higher than normal bamboo shoot production.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Director of the Quang Tri Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, in the face of the fact that organic agricultural production has become an urgent requirement to develop sustainable agriculture, linking production with market demand, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center has proactively built organic agricultural production models, protecting the environment and human health.
In recent times, the center has focused on identifying key crops with economic potential and suitable for organic conversion. In the 2024-2025 period, the center has supported 3 organic agricultural production models, of which 2 models have been certified: peony grapes in Dong Son ward and bamboo shoots in Hoan Lao commune. The custard apple growing model in Nam Trach commune is being supported by the center with procedures to be granted organic certification by the end of this year.
The success of the grape and bamboo shoot models is proof of an effective and profitable production direction. In the coming time, the center will continue to accompany, provide technical support, connect farmers with certification units and build a value chain from production to consumption, ensuring sustainable output for products. The long-term vision is to create a green, responsible and sustainable agriculture, bringing clean, high-quality products to consumers and enhancing the position of Quang Tri agricultural products in the market.
