(Chinhphu.vn) - According to the latest updated report on the socio-economic situation in the second quarter and the first 6 months of 2025, just announced by the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance this morning (July 5), the gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 7.96% over the same period last year. The 6-month GDP increased by 7.52% over the same period last year, the highest level in the same period in the 2011-2025 period.

specifically, GDP in the second quarter of 2025 grew positively, with an estimated growth rate of 7.96% over the same period last year, only lower than the growth rate of 8.56% in the second quarter of 2022 in the 2020-2025 period.

Of which, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.89%, contributing 5.19% to the total added value of the whole economy ; the industry and construction sector increased by 8.97%, contributing 43.63%; the service sector increased by 8.46%, contributing 51.18%.

In particular, GDP in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 7.52% over the same period last year, the highest level of the first 6 months in the period 2011-2025. In the total added value growth of the entire economy, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.84%, contributing 5.59%; the industry and construction sector increased by 8.33%, contributing 42.20%; the service sector increased by 8.14%, contributing 52.21%.

Processing and manufacturing industry - The growth driver of the entire economy with a growth rate of 10.11%

In the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector, the agricultural sector maintains stable growth, meets domestic consumption demand and serving exports. The added value of the agricultural sector in the first six months of 2025 increased by 3.51% over the same period last year, contributing 0.29 percentage points to the total added value of the entire economy; the forestry sector increased by 7.42% but accounted for a low proportion, so it only contributed 0.04 percentage points; the fishery sector increased by 4.21%, contributing 0.10 percentage points.

In the industrial and construction sector, the industry achieved high growth, the added value of the entire industry in the first six months of 2025 increased by 8.07% over the same period last year, only lower than the 8.89% increase in the same period in 2022 in the 2020-2025 period, contributing 2.64 percentage points to the growth rate of total added value of the entire economy.

The processing and manufacturing industry was the growth driver of the entire economy with a growth rate of 10.11%, contributing 2.55 percentage points; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.20%, contributing 0.17 percentage points; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 7.30%, contributing 0.04 percentage points; the mining industry alone decreased by 4.25%, decreasing by 0.12 percentage points. The construction industry increased by 9.62%, the highest increase compared to the same period in the 2011-2025 period, contributing 0.63 percentage points.

In the service sector, foreign trade, transportation, and tourism activities increased to meet regional and global consumption needs, contributing positively to economic growth. The added value of the service sector in the first 6 months of 2025 increased by 8.14% over the same period last year, the highest increase compared to the same period in the period 2011-2025.

According to the General Statistics Office, some public service sectors also had quite high growth rates to carry out many breakthrough tasks, serving the revolution in the country's organizational apparatus, such as: Administrative activities and support services increased by 14.58%; activities of the Communist Party, socio-political organizations; state management, national security and defense; mandatory social security increased by 13.09%.

Regarding the economic structure in the past 6 months, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounted for 11.28%; the industry and construction sector accounted for 36.96%; the service sector accounted for 43.40%; product taxes minus product subsidies deducted for 8.36%.

Regarding the use of GDP in the first 6 months, final consumption increased by 7.95% over the same period in 2024, contributing 84.20% to the overall growth rate of the whole economy; asset accumulation increased by 7.98%, contributing 40.18%; export of goods and services increased by 14.17%; import of goods and services increased by 16.01%./.
