On July 18, a representative of Ha Tinh General Hospital said that they had successfully performed endoscopic surgery to remove 7 maggots from the nose of female patient TTT (60 years old, residing in Phu Tien village, Ky Anh commune, Ha Tinh province).
Ms. T. was previously taken to the hospital by her family with symptoms of bleeding and discharge from her left nostril.

After examination, doctors examined the left nostril and discovered a mass suspected to be a stone with a lot of bloody fluid. Doctors continued to discover a mass suspected to be a stone-like foreign object in the nasal cavity with many maggots.
The patient was taken to the operating room for laparoscopic surgery and 7 maggots were removed, each measuring 1cm long and 2mm in diameter. The doctors also removed the entire mass of stones.
After successfully treating the maggot nest and the stone mass in the nasal cavity, the patient's health has stabilized.

Relatives said that 6 months ago, the patient had a stuffy nose, but did not go to the doctor and just bought salt water to rinse his nose, the condition became worse.
According to Dr. Le Thi Ha, Head of the Ear - Nose - Throat Department, Ha Tinh General Hospital, this is a rare case because poor hygiene creates favorable conditions for larvae to develop into maggots.
In addition, patients are also subjective and do not pay attention to the disease when the first abnormal symptoms appear, so it is discovered late when the eggs have developed into maggots.
