According to the new regulations, 10th graders will study 8 compulsory subjects and choose 4 subjects from 9 elective subjects. To untie this knot, Ms. Nguyen Mai Huong - a high school teacher gave advice: "When choosing an elective subject, students need to rely on three core criteria including personal ability, career orientation and favorite university admission combination. Choosing the right subject will create a great advantage in university entrance exam orientation. From 4 elective subjects, students will consider choosing 2 subjects for the high school graduation exam, thereby determining the admission combination suitable for the desired career and university".
Ms. Huong also shared the "secret" to choosing the right subject combination right from grade 10. First, students need to identify the subjects they scored highest on and enjoyed the most in middle school - the foundation for recognizing their strengths and passion for learning.

Finally, you cannot ignore finding out the admission information of universities to know which combination of subjects they consider. For example, medicine and pharmacy usually need combination of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Information Technology; law, economics can be related to Physics, Economic and Legal Education; architecture, fine arts need Information Technology, Physics.
Besides choosing a combination, Ms. Huong also emphasized the importance of studying all required subjects firmly and evenly, especially Math and Literature, because these are two basic subjects that appear in many university entrance exam combinations.

Mr. Vu Khac Ngoc, a Chemistry teacher in Hanoi, warned that choosing the wrong combination can lead to many serious consequences: loss of interest in studying, difficulty in university admission, and even disorientation in choosing a future career.
