Leonardo shines, Al Hilal sinks Man City's ambitions
At Camping World Stadium (Orlando, USA), Manchester City opened the scoring early thanks to Bernardo Silva's goal in the 9th minute.
However, the Premier League champions' advantage was quickly erased. Within six minutes of the second half, Leonardo and Malcom scored, putting the Saudi Arabian side 2-1 up.
Haaland promptly equalized 2-2 for Man City in the 55th minute, but that was all coach Pep Guardiola and his team could do in official match time.
In extra time, Koulibaly headed the ball dangerously to make it 3-2, before Phil Foden continued to bring the match back to balance with a goal to make it 3-3.
However, in the 113th minute, Leonardo once again spoke up with a close-range finish, sealing a thrilling 4-3 victory for Al Hilal.
Speaking after the match, Guardiola admitted: “We wanted to go further, but now is the time for the whole team to rest both physically and mentally. This is a world- class tournament, and we did not take advantage of our chances in the first half. Al Hilal played more effectively.”
Fluminense beat Inter Milan, reaching the quarter-finals
In the previous match, Inter Milan surprisingly lost 0-2 to Fluminense. In the 3rd minute, Cano took advantage of Inter's defensive mistake to open the score. During the remaining time, coach Chivu's team played deadlocked and conceded a second goal in the extra time (90+3) thanks to Hercules.
This defeat caused Inter to stop early, giving the ticket to the quarterfinals to Fluminense - the South American team that is creating many surprises in the tournament. Meanwhile, the shock of Al Hilal against Man City a few hours later shocked the entire football world.
