80th Anniversary of National Day: Russian Press Highlights the Grand Celebration

On September 2, major Russian newspapers reported extensively on the military parade to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

TASS news agency reported that the parade had the participation of 16,000 soldiers from units of the Vietnam People's Army and Public Security, along with the parade of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the People's Liberation Army of China, the Lao People's Army and the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.

The news report said this was the first time since the parade in Hanoi in 1985 that troops of all kinds marched in Ba Dinh Square, with the appearance of heavy military equipment.

The parade showcased the most modern weapons and military equipment, including advanced missile technology, tanks, including the T-90 tank, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, air defense units and self-propelled artillery, electronic warfare vehicles and domestically produced unmanned systems.

Vietnam Air Force pilots demonstrated their flying skills and performed a parade on Mi helicopters, Yak-130 training aircraft and Su-30MK2 fighter jets.

In addition to senior Vietnamese leaders, members of high-ranking foreign delegations from Russia, Belarus, China, Cuba and Cambodia also attended the celebration as guests of honor.

Russia was represented by a parliamentary and party delegation, led by Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia Party, First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Vladimir Vladimirovich Yakushev.

Meanwhile, Kommersant newspaper published an article titled “Vietnam celebrates 80th Independence Day with a large military parade,” stating that this is the largest military parade in decades.

The streets of Vietnam's capital were filled with tens of thousands of flag-bearing people, most of them wearing red shirts. The parade featured the latest military hardware, including tanks, missiles, helicopters and fighter jets.

Thousands of Vietnamese soldiers marched alongside military personnel from China, Russia and other countries. The Vietnamese fleet (mainly frigates and submarines) paraded at Cam Ranh Bay, a former Soviet military base.

The article also stressed that the Vietnamese government has spent an unprecedented amount of cash, 100,000 VND (3.8 USD) per person for 100 million citizens, and has also pardoned more than 13,900 prisoners on this occasion.

The news site vesti.ru published an article titled “Vietnam celebrates 80 years of Independence Day and the founding of the first Socialist State” reporting that Hanoi organized a military parade at Ba Dinh Square, where President Ho Chi Minh declared the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

The parade involved 15,680 military personnel and military equipment, followed by a march by working people.

The parade will also include units from Russia, China, Laos and Cambodia. Russia will be represented by the honor guard of the Preobrazhensky Regiment, 154th Independent Command.

On September 2, the smotrim channel also had a report on the parade in Hanoi to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

The channel reported that about 40,000 people participated in the parade: 87 units, including four honor guards, 22 troops and 14 military equipment teams, and 30 aircraft welcomed guests from the air, including Russian-made Su and Yak fighters, as well as Mi helicopters.

A detachment of the Russian armed forces participating in the parade at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, including a group of 33 Russian guardsmen from the 154th Preobrazhensky Regiment, arrived in Hanoi on August 20.

The Russian detachment commander is Lieutenant Anton Mikhailov, who stood in the flag group on May 9 at the parade marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War on Red Square in Moscow, where for the first time a group of the Vietnam People's Army also participated.

Smotrim channel said about 150,000 people gathered to watch the parade in Hanoi, which was broadcast live on national television.
