5,550 students take the 10th grade exam for the HCMC specialized school, the lowest in the past 4 years

On the afternoon of June 7, 5,550 10th grade students in Ho Chi Minh City took the specialized subject exam for Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted. This is the lowest number of candidates taking the specialized exam in the past 4 years, down 2,650 students compared to last year.

Students taking the entrance exam to specialized schools must take four essay exams, including three non-specialized exams (Math, Literature, English) and one specialized subject exam.

Candidates take the specialized subject test in 150 minutes. Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted has 1,624 candidates registered for the exam, a ratio of 1 to 3.5. Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted has 3,926 candidates registered for the exam, a ratio of 1 to 4.9.

This year, for the first time, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted recruited students nationwide, while Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted has been doing this for a long time. Compared to last year, the number of candidates taking the 10th grade specialized exam in Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 2,650 students. The reason for the decrease is that the city stopped recruiting 22 10th grade specialized classes at 4 regular public high schools such as: Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Gia Dinh High School, Nguyen Huu Huan High School, Mac Dinh Chi High School according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Admission requirements for Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted are that students must have graduated from junior high school within the prescribed age; The results of the training and learning assessment for the entire school year of grades 6, 7, and 8 must be good or better, and must be good in grade 9.

Admission score: Literature + Math + English + (specialized subject x 2) + priority if any.

The two specialized schools will only consider candidates who are eligible to take the entrance exam, have taken all required exams, have not violated exam regulations during the entrance exam, and have all scored higher than 2.

Admission to specialized classes will be based on the scores of candidates from high to low until they meet the enrollment quota of each school for each specialized subject. Students who are admitted to a specific choice will study that choice. If they are not admitted to a specialized school, candidates will be considered for 3 choices to enter a regular public high school as registered.
