From June 23 to 25 in Dublin (Ireland), the World Conference on Tobacco Control 2025 was organized by the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), with the support of the Government of Ireland, the World Health Organization and Bloomberg Philanthropies. The conference was attended by hundreds of delegates from governments, health organizations, research institutes and civil society around the world.
The conference focused on four contents: Creating a large and prestigious international forum for governments , researchers, and international organizations to share experiences, discuss difficulties, and develop action strategies on tobacco harm prevention and control; Promoting the implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and effective harm prevention measures / MPOWER through sharing practical experiences, based on evidence and reliable data; Preventing tobacco industry tactics to protect public health policies, for the health of the people; Ensuring that conference outcomes are materialized into long-term actions in the future.
On June 23, WHO will release the Global Tobacco Epidemic Report 2025, which provides reliable data and clear messages on tobacco control in each country. The report tracks progress in tobacco control since 2007, highlighting the achievements of pioneers and countries making significant progress, as well as the proportion of the world's population now covered by tobacco control regulations.
The report also reflects a growing trend of countries banning e-cigarettes, raising tobacco taxes and introducing strong visual warnings on product packaging. As the tobacco industry continues to target young people with appealing flavours and sophisticated advertising, the report highlights global efforts to protect future generations.
That same evening, Bloomberg Philanthropies and the World Health Organization will present the Global Tobacco Control Awards to honor countries and international organizations that have achieved outstanding results in effective tobacco control.
